I went from the shorter rails to the extended ones, never noticed any change in wind noise, and they give a greater spread for fitting the cross bars, when having to carry longer items (like ladders), so more useful.

Ancient - D3 TDV6 S - Tonga with Ebony, 20" Stormers, satnav & DVD

Had them fitted on my D3, now on D4 and no difference in noise level, and deff look better.

Have them on mine & really like them.
No increase in wind noise at all.
Got them from Slimer, way cheaper than from LR

Our D3 didn't have them but I can immediately see the practical uses for carrying long stuff on the roof. No sure about the factory option price mind... Disco3 is now gone but not forgotten. Waiting for Disco6 with full aluminium construction weight reduction and hybrid engine...

I went for the extended rails on my one as the roof just looked bare without them.
Can't say I hear much wind noise from them tbh.
