Extended Mode

Was out on the weekend and encountered a clay mud patch up a relatively steep hill with ruts that grounded me while in off road height.

I was under the impression that it should have then automatically gone to Extended mode but didnt.

What I now need to understand is why not? And is there a way of manually doing it?

Can any of you Gurus out there help me?

Think you need to have your foot on the brake after you've been stuck or something for it to work.

If you stick it in neutral, foot on brake and push suspension lever forward it should go into super extended mode, but you need to be in extended mode first which I beleive happens automatically... once you get stuck. Not sure what envokes extended mode though Confused

Did you give the vehicle time for it to realise it needed to extend Question

When you are 'grounded' accelerate gently until you get wheel spin (don't floor it) then after about 20 seconds the vehicle will realise that something is wrong. The main alert will be low air pressure in the suspension air chambers at each corner of the car. At this point you will hear a bong and an icon on the dash will display you will also get a 'reset suspension when clear' message. When this occurs stop driving and wait for the suspension to raise. If you want to you can now apply the brake and hold the height adjuster in the up position until you hear another beep as you go into Super Extended. Basically the car is pumping air into the suspension thus pushing the wheels down and hopefully lifting the vehicle clear of the obstacle. The reason I said to gently accelerate and then stop driving when you hear the bong is, if you continue trying to drive the wheels will spin and the tyres may cut away the ground as the car pushes the wheels down.

Well it works for me Thumbs Up

I can understand the mud bit, but does the water have to lift the car?

I guess if you overdo it driving through deep water you will get a 'pushing up' effect on the body which might make the vehicle think its grounded Confused

Spot on Derek Thumbs Up The D3's usually 'float' in this puddle at Boughrood when its in full flood, this usually induces extended mode Thumbs Up

Andrew at what of depth (at sensible speeds) does that start to happen? And how does it know? I can see the mud bit, no forward traction etc, but presumably in water you'd still have forward movement. Like my father says, damn clever these japs!

About 500mm I think.
When the car realises that the suspension is not supporting the vehicle.
