Position is fine, I has mine in a similar position when I had an expo rack (though I drilled straight through the ally plate and mounted it on there), check your SWR The End

Electromagnetically you should be ok with that Andy- assuming there's no radio devices in your retro-fitted half-coconut. You'll probably have a better signal in/out in the forwards direction* (as the antenna is at the rear of the ground plane). If your connections are sound you should be OK.
Doesn't look like there's much to adjust if your SWR is high..
Also watch your plate for fatigue fractures...
*You'll have to be at the back of the convoy 2006 D3 finally swapped for a 2016 D4 Graphite in Graphite grey. No mods

Re-checked today and now working fine, must have been a loose connection.
