Most expensive warranty ever ??

My warranty direct policy is coming to an end so thought I would check around for new quotes.

It looks like Warranty Direct has changed their policies and is now offering just one core policy with a couple of optional additions. It looks very comprehensive but is v.expensive!

2009 Discovery 3, 97000 miles,
Warranty Direct
1 year cover with all additions £2316.18 !!
3 year cover with all additions £5907.94 !!

Motoreasy
3 year Plan B with betterment removed £1705.28

I'll be trying motoreasy this time i think....

That is very expensive!!

Rather than £6k on a warranty you’d be better off putting it down on a deposit for a newer one Shocked

Check the small print with motor easy, they’ve been getting some bad press on here recently.

Ouch!!! Would make me seriously think about not doing a warranty at those prices. Would mean the choice of keep or chop. I wonder what the "real world" prices are after a bit of a haggle.

Agreed, looks very comprehensive, prob on the level of the "old" Luxury Care policy. Even DPF is covered. But at a mega price. Big Cry Big Cry Looks costs can be reduced by shouldering a fixed percentage of the claims but then what's the point of cover.

Personally, I wouldn't touch Motor Easy, or LR warranty if I qualified, with a very long pole. Thumbs Up

interesting.

I just took one out last week on my Merc (2011 E350 CDI convertible).

Was the old system, and cost £650 after haggling, with betterment removed and main Merc dealer labour rates.

Cant decide if the "old" one is better or the new one Rolling Eyes

I just did a quote for my D4 (11 plate, 60k - 70k miles), all boxes ticked re options, £50 excess and 0% contribution:

1 year = £1,779
2 year = £3,203
3 year = £4,538

Truely double ouch. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Wouldn’t it be better to put that money in the piggy bank and skip warranties? ~5200 eur into a maintenance contract for a depreciating asset sounds a bit unoptimal. Thumbs Up

In the piggy bank you’ll end up with ~6000 eur after three years assuming 5% compound interest which should be achievable with an ETF. If nothing happens you’ve still got all the money left.

Whistle

(We don’t really have warranties in the same sense here so my view is different from you guys)

It's in that kind of area. Then the only real risk is the really big ticket item (the engine) going bang.

Now that's bite their hand off territory. Looks like they want to attract the cars straight out of manufacturer's warranty.

Let’s be honest, a 9 year old car with 100,000 miles on it, unless there is wear and tear included then it is pointless and therefore is going to be expensive, they are trying to make a profit as well.

They certainly seem to be trying to minimise their risk.

But being a LR they could be shooting themselves in the foot Whistle
