These are seriously expensive cars to run. Just been rung by Landrover dealer who have our D4 in for a 32,000 mile service. They say we need :
4 new tyres at £200 a pop inc. VAT. This will be the second set we have bought for this vehicle so £1,600 on tyres so 5 pence a mile just for tyre rubber.
The aircon needs serviced (gas recharged) at £60 plus vat (always think air con is a con and maybe a "make work" example here).
The park brake needs serviced at £90 plus vat. Maybe another "make work" example. They say it has been binding on so I say if the park brake needs sorted then it should be a warranty matter not a chargeable service matter. They disagree and believe LR will too.
Service itself is £545 inc VAT. This is very much the top end of the pricing range listed here http://www.carfocus.info/post/872426359/la...cing-costs
even though you would have hoped that Northern / Rural rates would be lower than average.
We did get a nice new FL2 courtesy car and home pick up / drop off though. Whilst it certainly ain't no D4 - I wonder how much cheaper a FL2 might be to run Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Would be questioning some of that, surely aircon should be under warranty if it has lost its charge? and you are bound to get tyres cheaper than £240 a pop (if they are indeed needed) I always check around before anything goes for a service.

normal dealer tactics I'm afraid. Take the car to one of the many indie tyre places and get a free tyre and break check. IF as we suspect there is nothing wrong with them report the dealer to trading standards and name and shame on here.

My mate had a freelander which went into a Carlisle LR dealer and every time it went it they said there was loads needed doing. Final straw came when it had been in for service and they had fitted new pads and discs and it had to go back 3 weeks later to have an ordered part fitted and they rang him up and said they had noticed the pads were low and needed replacing He blew his top with the service desk and they went away to find out what was going on, they came back and said they had 2 freelanders in and they had got them mixed up He's never been back since

Using any main dealer for tyres is a big mistake they just don't have the turnover to offer decent rates and with dealer markups

I dont really get this comment
It's nothing to do with turnover it's simply about their profit margin.
They simply want to 'fleece' you.....9/10 times they will get a local tyre firm to replace tyres for them anyway and then charge you £50 per tyre profit! Not bad money for a phone call

Isn't there a good place at Teen Valley? Know nothing of it but it's rated highly here. 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

My old company car would go to the main dealer for service and every time there was a urgent list of jobs to be done,
We would never bother and at the next service different urgent jobs would be reported!!
It was a great car the must of fixed it's self!

Well, exactly that! They typically don't buy tyres to fit because they don't get the level of discounts to compete so they often do exactly as you say with the markup. +£200 for a set

On the other hand, my local main dealer price matched the lowest price I could find in my area for 4 tyres.

I've given up with main dealers now with mine approaching 6 years old. Its booked into an independent 4x4 specialist for its 90K service a week on Monday. I never buy tyres from dealers and check the depth myself regularly and shop around when I need them. Just shows how bad main dealers actually are.

Hi Lee,
I used ARD a few years back when they were more LR and less Ssangyoung (or whatever they do now). Nice guys, but pricey, and I had to go back a couple of times. Maybe I was unlucky - think I probably was as they seem to do pretty well.
For me, I want it fixed, first time. The inconvenience of a repeat journey especially when we have to travel to avoid SS is worth a few quid for the risk in swapping from Duckworths. I'm really very happy with them and get excellent service, so I've no need to change.
Some place in Hull (that has some ex LR guys - from when it was Waterside) always seem to be rated very highly for LR work. Something like "K&M" or "KR" motors, or something like that...
