Expedition Roof Rack & Extended Rails
I've bought a 2nd hand genuine Expedition Rack for my MY14 Discovery 4.
I've downloaded the instructions and they call for the short rails.
I have extended rails on the car and would like to mount the rack on them as I plan on using the rack only several times a year for camping trips and the car with the rack is too tall for my garage so will be a pain in the a$%# to keep on all the time.
I know that others have done it as per the attached photo I found on the web.
My question is whether I need to modify the rack in any way. It seems like I can just use the existing fixings sans the front supports which I actually got with the rack as the weight will be supported by the extended rack at the front.
Any pictures of the rack fitted to extended rails would be appreciated.
Cheers
Paul

I think that you are correct. With the extended rails you just delete the front brackets and I assume that you can just fit the forward mount shoe in the rail extension to pick up the holes at the front of the rack.Simon.

Here's my Expo sitting on extended rails. I was only transporting it the once on that car, so didn't add fixings to the front, but if actually using it I would add a further pair of plates in the front of the T track bolted to the rack.

Thanks for your responses.
Does anyone know wether I can buy extra fixing plates?
To fit to the long rails I repositioned the front rail mount further forward and the rear mount slightly forward. The slots in the rails give the positions. Still only on four mounts but less of a forward bending moment.

Out of interest the X reg D3 prototype at Dunsfold has full length roof rails. Wonder if this was planned from the outset then deleted.

I have an LR3 and the expedition roof rack. I am missing the front support brackets. I have the short roof rails. In this thread I noticed that some LR3/Expedition rack owners have longer roof rails and thus do not need the enclosed front support brackets. Does anyone have front brackets that they do not need and are willing to sell or I could borrow them to have a machinist duplicate?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
