Exhaust note change
Have noticed since getting D4 that occasionally the exhaust note changes to a much deeper one, almost as if aprt of the baffles have been removed. It is not like it all the time and appears to change after the car has been running for at least a few minutes. It would also appear to be getting more frequent.
Went out this morning, started car sounded normal, drove about three miles and could hear a marked change in exhaust note, much deeper/more of a roar whislt driving at a steady 50. Stayed like that for about 12 miles. Parked car and left for hour, came back and exahust note back to normal, drove home and stayed normal all way home.
Any ideas or any one had same issue.MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

I've noticed something similar a couple of times. Usually when driving gently with a little bit of throttle applied e.g. 30mph up a gentle incline.
It sounds like I'm following a boy racer with a stupid exhaust on a corsa or something (except the sound continues after the boy racer has broken down ).
I can only hear it inside the car. If I open the windows for a better listen it sounds normal from the outside.
Could it be the DPF regenerating - would that make the exhaust sound different

I took mine back with regard to this noise, thinking my exhaust was blowing. Mine happens every now and then where the note definately gets deeper. With luck it happened whilst a technician sat beside me, and clearly he said the DPF on its cycle and it'll clear in a minute.........and it did

I have that as well, and I notice it after a high speed run usually. So the conclusion is that it is DPF trying to clean itself out?
Have exactly the same (posted previously about this) and it only happens when engine up to temp, and has been running at a steady speed (generally 60-70mph) for a few miles... then it sounds as if the exhaust has blown!! Would have been nice if the manual gave some hint of the issue

Ah, this explains the noise the other day, really thought i was going to have a new kitchen. I also guess this means that I have a DPF, my car is a 59 plate HSE that is called a TDV6 rather than an SDV6
Phew!!
