Exhaust crossover pipe cracked. Sigh. (Now including Turbo!)

The car had been making a strange whooshing noise for a few days and now I have had a crack in my crossover pipe diagnosed by a local indy. (possibly broken EGR pipe?)

Can I continue to drive the car albeit sedately. Will I cause any more problems?

How long should the replacement of said crossover pipe take in an indy LR specialist? Is it a body off job?

If the body does have to come off in the worst case, what other jobs should I consider having done at the same time? Already I know that the secondary turbo needs its oil drain pipe modification.

I hope to claim on my Warranty Direct warranty for this. Can anyone predict issues with claiming for the X-over and the turbo?

In the meantime, I will continue to drive it but turn the radio up.

Cheers

Drivers side?

Seen a few burst EGR pipes on the 3.0...

Did take a bit (a lot!) of careful wording to get them to cover it under warranty...

Thanks. Hard to tell which side it is based on the noise.
Was it difficult to claim as WD do not cover exhausts?

The Landover Extended warranty fully covered a replacement cross over pipe on mine with no fuss. Apparently, they didn't need to take the body off, just drop the gearbox.

you might struggle top get them to cover the turbo oil drain. They only just covered mine a few years ago after a bit of discussion and since then they have changed the policy wording under turbos to exclude pipes and hoses.

Of course, if the turbo is the issue, then pipework can be modified at the same time Whistle Wink

I can't remember how it was worded, but was decided around a look through the warranty policy Thumbs Up

Car currently in Mastora in Alnwick while I'm on holiday down there. Warranty Direct have authorised the repairs to the cross over pipe and the turbo..... BUT... they insist on supplying their own parts including a recon turbo and not the LR that Mastora would prefer to use.
Any views on this? I'd rather that a LR turbo is used. Sounds like delaying tactics from WD and time is ticking as I'm not in Alnwick forever.

That's not going to be a small difference.

I'd question the outcome if the Turbo were to fail after the WD cover has expired, who would cover the bill for repair? Confused

I may have missed something but why is the turbo being replaced? - OP makes no reference to faulty turbo, just the drain pipe which I got done for about £220?

Indeed I didn't mention the turbo originally. However, Mastora thought that the slight leak of oil from the turbo definitely needed a turbo replacement and not just the drain pipe modification. They found the oil leak while investigating the whistling cross over pipe.

Oh - not so good - where was the oil leaking - assume it is visible externally?

Sorry to hear Dave.

How come they won’t pay for LR parts? When I’ve had a WD claim, there hasn’t been any discussion about part suppliers or OEM/non OEM.

Do you have the dealer rate or Indy rate? Wonder if that makes a difference? .

Hi Rob.
I've got the Indy rate so that could be affecting WD's attitude. But it does seem at odds with most peoples' experience of WD.
The garage are having none of it, so I hope because they are not backing down WD will eventually realise they will have to behave.

You still doing the Grimsby thing Rob, or have things moved on?
