The saga continues. WD employing every delaying tactic known to man. They have missed all their own deadlines and still will not authorise the repairs despite having had all the info and photos they have asked for for a whole week now.
The latest is this;

In order to finalise the claim i need an image showing the turbo removed, can you please get the vehicle back upon customers return

Trouble is, body off is a not inconsiderable expense if WD throw their toys out of the pram and say no to turbo replacement.D1 300Tdi - gone

Finally.
WD have authorised the replacement of the Turbo. Not at all impressed by the way they operate - terrible customer care.

All sorted now. New turbo, X-over pipe and rear belt changed while the body was off. Thanks WD but no thanks for faffing about to such a degree.
Thanks also to Disco Mikey for spotting the turbo problem in the first place, and to Mastora for fixing the car and dealing with WD. Was stranded in Northumberland when it all went wrong....
Such a tiny hole for such a huge noise from the pipe...

Did WD pay out for the pipe and the turbo or just the turbo?

Depends on who you happen to get at WD. Some guys I spoke to said they would cover it, and some said it was definitely NOT covered. The policy says pipes and hoses are not covered....D1 300Tdi - gone

I wonder if it was covered under "airbags and emissions" add-on.
they're probably thinking "pipe" as in rubber tube ... if you called it something different like "turbo-crossover system" it might just go through without debate.
