To my mind it makes a mockery of the permit system. Money talks, I guess.

Yeah I was going to go, but now I’ve seen that I realised it wasn’t that difficult a trip round the M25 is much tougher Whistle

I’m afraid it appears to be real. There was a backlog of people waiting for the weather to clear.

There are literally thousands more technically interesting and significantly cheaper mountains out there, but rich vain folk always seem to gravitate to the highest thing - just like MB or the 3 peaks over here

The issue with the more technically interesting is that they are technical and require some skill. Everest is basically a walk. A bloody steep, very high, oxygen-deprived walk, but a walk non-the-less. That's why so many people are able to do it.

BBC now reporting 20 ... most seem to be descending. Must be some questions to be asked of the guides ?

If people are sitting in the "death zone" for long periods waiting their turn to get on the summit, and then spending a long time coming down past those still queuing, it doesn't seem surprising that they're dying on the way down. Humans don't belong up there, physiologically speaking.

British guy who died yesterday had made the summit, but dies 150 Meters down Sad

Apparently going down is harder as you 'will to complete' disappears as soon as you reach the top

Here a few photos of Everest to make you think. The vast quantities of people it attracts are spoiling the place, a bit like the NC500. Whistle

An ex climber on BBC Breakfast this morning said that there are too many who go to climb Everest that just don't have a clue.
E.g. they've never worn crampons, and when they do, they put them on back to front!!
Said it was the usual thing nowadays where "money talks" and that gets you a place on Everest.

Shouldn't be allowed!!

Wouldn't be seen dead there!!!

Yep, Nepal is desperate for foreign money so promotes the place and issues permits galore.

Apparently you can get away with a supported climb of Everest for as little as £15k.
