European Driving and Headlights |
|
I am considering spending Easter driving in France and Spain in my MY06 D3.
Can anyone point me in the right direction in modifying the Headlights for driving on the wrong side of the road please. Headlights are Xenon but not adaptive.
Is there a blanking kit? Do you have to carry spare bulbs still? I know about the Hi Vis jacket and Triangle, anything else I should be aware of? 8)
Thanks...Mike

Hello mike, I've just come back from France, and have driven many times in France and Spain. I used to change the beam direction on my non adaptive xenon's, but no longer bother. 1200 miles last week and not one flash by a disgruntled motorist, so my advice would be to leave well alone.
I don't have a spare xenon bulb but still have a pack of other various bulbs to try and keep plod happy.

it seems to me that dirty headlamp lens cause more problems than changing eth adjustment. I have never been flashed in France, however in the UK with the car being used all week on filthy winter roads I get flashed loads even when on dipped by the end of the week. end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Mike 40.
This site is a mine of useful information on all topics Disco BUT when it comes to adjusting headlamps for continental driving you will never find so much erroneous rubbish information brought together in one place.
In your owners manual you will find instructions on how to set your lamps for continental driving. Its easy to do and takes only a few minutes.
Driving with incorrectly adjusted headlamps WILL degrade the performance of your dip beam and hence your ability to see the nearside kerb at night. This fact alone without any consideration of dazzling oncoming drivers should be enough to make you adjust your headlights correctly. .

You should never argue with idiots because they will just drag you down to their level....then beat you with experience !
