Euro Road Trip suggestions pls
Before this poxy virus got out of the box/market/lab, or all 3, we had easily another 2 or 3 major Road Trips planned, prob 6 months each. Now highly unlikely to happen, maybe a few chunks (Japan, Aus & Canada) will pos happen but not on the scale of the last 2 jollies.
Soooooooooo, how about a 2 or 3 week trip to Euroland, me thinks. It would by car and staying in, hopefully, hotels, none of this camping malarkie. But with what’s going on, where to go? Thinking in Sept and maybe France, Spain or Alps, to places where no 14 day quarantine in place. No Scandinavia, no ROI.
But what to do when there, apart from lots of nice scenic drives or going from A - B? Are “attractions” open? We’d avoid big cities, too liable to new lockdowns.
Any thought from anyone looking at holibobs on t’other side of Le Manch?
If you are looking to go to France in September get in quick. Ferries are getting booked up very quickly. Ferry to Calais 2 weeks ago was £136 return in September. Went to book it yesterday and price has gone up to £200 and we could not get the sailing times we wanted. Have now booked Eurotunnel for same price as ferry.

Highly recommend Slovakia and you can take Skippy to see where she was born
could also take in Hungary and Czech Republic....
Agree with what Ivan said above as ferry fares have doubled since the end of lockdown and are not coming down soon...I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Czech Republic is very affordable and it’s full of cool looking castles... of course, England has a bunch of castles too so perhaps they’re not a novelty unlike for us Finns

I think where Del lives might have one or two castles as well (as England) I want to see the sweets before I get into your windowless van... I'm not stupid!

Italian Lakes... Como, Garda etc and then across to Venice.....
If you want to extend it down to Florence, Rome, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast....
Did it last year in the RRS and was best holiday ever!
So good that we are doing it again ASAP in the new car!

Italian lakes sounds a good plan. Up over the Alps, back via Slovakia & pick up a set of winter wheels & tyres in Bratislava, Vienna, Salzburg & home. Hmmmmmmmm, a plan may be hatching.

Ferry over to Santander/Bilbao in N Spain - or drive down through France.
Then follow the coast west. Great roads and lots of excursions into the National Park in the Mountains on N Spain. Follow coast round the tip of NW Spain and down into Santiago and then to Porto in Northern Portugal. Stay in the Yeatman Hotel in Porto for at least one night.
Then, option to head south to Lisbon and then coast to Western Algarve or cut east and back into Spain.

not driven it (yet) but the train trip down part of the western coastline has some stunning scenery so I expect the roads are equally nice.
I have done both coasts in Italy ... and will do again at soonest chance. so not this year by the look of things..

Derek, we did the Alps, Italian lakes, and Italy Adriatic in the Jaaaaaag a few years ago. Highly recommended, even in a Skoda!
Ferry overnight to Zebrugge.
Drive to Switzerland, overnight Lucerne.
Drive to Milan, hotel in centre.
Went to Italian GP!!
Drive to Urbino on coast near Rimini, stay in luxury hotel for a few nights
Drive north to Bergamo, over the Stelvio pass overnight in Trafoi on border with Germany.
Drive back over Stelvio, but turn for St Moritz, lunch in expensive restaurant, carry on to Lake Como, get hotel on lake shore.
Spend a few days in area, loads to see.
Drive home via overnight in Brussels.
Mega road trip and loved every mile of it.

When you do the N Spain part allow time to drop in and out of the mountains that run along that northern coastline. Breathtaking scenery and EU financed roads..Jim

The following year we did a Spain trip. Again it was superb.
Ferry overnight to Santander
Day one to Salamanca, 2 nights in hotel in centre.
Drive to Seville, another hotel for 3 nights in centre.
Drive to Monachil near Granada, beautiful hotel I can thoroughly recommend, La Almunia de Valle.
Stay a few days and explore the Sierra Nevada area.
Drive home via Bilbao, and see the sights on the way.
