EPB Stuck - Release Cable Reset |
|
Recently purchased a 2006 S Disco3.
I did my research and hoped never to have the dreaded EPB issue.
However yesterday the EPB got stuck on. I was in a really difficult spot at the top of a very busy steep hill. With little time to diagnose or fix I had to go for the emergency cable under the panel behind the EPB button.
So I am now mobile again with no Handbrake.
However what do I do now? I understand I need to reattach or reset the emergency cable can anyone point me in the direction of a what to do after I've pulled the cable guide?
All I can find is guides on how to pull it or how to adjust but nothing about what to do once you've pulled it.
Any and all help appreciated.

Thanks little G.
Had looked at this it talks about it reattaching itself... I assumed there was some automated process of button pushes and ignition turns to get it to try itself first...

This quote is from Robbie, “Unless there is a failure the EPB will re-latch when you pull the apply leaver up. A second pull on the lever will then engage the EPB normally”
I can’t help more than that as I’ve no experience of having to reset. I’ve not had any problems with my EPB but I do regularly clean and adjust using Bodsy’s brake bible.
Good luck

Amazing thanks littleG I missed that bit.
Here's hoping I don't have to spend the afternoon laying on the cold wet floor!

EPB issues for me too...
Driving home yesterday with some odd metallic grinding sound to the NSR wheel, I had a brief look at it and wrongly diagnosed that it was the disk back plate that was rubbing on something. Adding it to the list of minor issues I headed home and parked up, sticking on the EPB parking brake. Oops. Grind, crunch, red warning light and message of EPB failure. Then it wouldn’t realease.
Researching on here I located the emergency release. Pulled it, felt the clicking and assumed it had auto-released. But no movement in the car, EPB still firmly on. Prior to pulling the cord I though it best to remove the EPB fuse from the main fuse board by the battery (not the glove box one). I did this to ensure that the actuator didn’t try to auto re-engage and break the actuator mechanism.
Frustrated I back-tracked and put the fuse back in, started the engine and tried the EPB release switch and hey-presto it released the EPB and the car can move.
Trying to ensure that EPB did not then try to auto-engage when stopping the car I held down the EPB switch when turning off the ignition. I then went back to remove the fuse and will use the car now without the EPB threatening to come back on.
Question - I assume that the original fault (grinding) was in fact a broken/disintegrated parking brake shoe. Once I have repacked the shoes on both sides and adjusted it properly using the notch, do you think it safe to try to use the EPB in the normal way? Or, am I likely to need to open up the EPB module and maunally wind it back etc?
