If EPB is stuck on, cycle ignition, but hold down the EPB when turning on ignition should reset ECU and get you going.
Saved the day last Christmas when ours was jammed on a car park access ramp for 10 minutes, it does not make you popular...

Hi Paul,, tried everything to release it, only thing that worked was pulling the release cable. At the stealers now expecting it back maybe tomorrow with a whopping great bill. VW Touareg 3.0 Altitude

Our actuator went recently, was £680 - but we are still in the "goodwill zone" even though out of warrenty so LR paid which was a result
No screamer when it went though, so think it just died after all the previous screamers. There are nylon parts that shear, see the thread about it by the guy that took one apart - essentially its not fit for purpose.
I have done the adjustment myself using bodsy's brake bible and its pretty easy, recommend it to keep things in check.
Don't forget to check the fuse as well in future, realise your's is at the dealers now, hope its not to painful

Checked fuse all ok, it decided it wasnt going to budge and that was that, to say actuators are not fit for purpose is an understatement, i had 4 in 2 months, and a turbo, new air compressor, new wheel bearing, the list goes on, be a new car soon. VW Touareg 3.0 Altitude

exactly where the manual says it is?
Its underneath the panel just behind the handbrake switch, at least it is on a real car with a manual box the handbook does show full details with pictures.
@discorob - what no suspension bushes or transfer box? Must have had EGR by now?

Yeah its not a glowing report for LR that in the 2.5 years we have had our D3 it has been to the dealer 900% more than the Alfa Romeo I had for 7 years... I can sympathise!

More EPB probs & question |
|
My EPB stuck on while on Skye in Dec, I used the emergency release to get it free but now I have an orange light on the dashboard and no EPB -I leave it in gear when parked.
The park brake was not screaming in use prior to this.
I have read the comments on here and will check 'a fuse' tomorrow to see if that is why it has not automatically reset. I am going to fit new rear pads tomorrow and check the EPB adjustment. Can someone advise clearly if the EPB can be reset by me (and exactly how) or if it needs to go to a garage to get plugged into a computer. The downloads someone kindly did say it must be reset by Land ROver, but some comments here seem to suggest it should automatically reset and then more comments seem to imply a combination of ign on, hold epb off ....etc etc will reset it...help
I am confused.
Mine has 106000 miles on it but also does need as much TLC as my 1990 mini cooper!
I am also very surprised one of the Land Rover specialists has not come up with a manual handbrake conversion.... they'd make a fortune. MGB GT V8

Just fitted new rear pads, all cool.
Then followed the instructions from Bodsy to adjust the EPB (noted that after I did the 8-clicks 'post' the 40-90Nm lock up it was effectively adjusted out quite a bit from before -ie it has been tightened right up, which would explain the overheat i got from rear brakes after a full service at a local land rover specialist!).
Checked fuse 41 (5A) -ok, tried to get it into 'bedding-in' mode -nothing, still have orange light and no EPB.
I guess it's going to have to go to Land Rover now........just checked invoice dates and 2weeks after the service mentioned above, EPB failed....gutted, take your car to a garage and they knacker it.. I assume because they adjusted the shoes right up (up until they were just 'not binding' -which is what you would normally do with no EPB) they have knackered the actuator completely......
Gutted...someone mentioned £680......? Blimey... How hard is it to fit a new actuator? You can get one for 304quid on ebay... MGB GT V8

Just checked, see item eBay Item No. 280578305481 on ebay UK from 'landroversparesuk' (which seems to be Martin Duckworth of Boston UK) £304 buy it now, plus delivery -which might be a bit to Australia! It is the cables and actuator.
