Hi fellow landys......appologies for posting up a topic that has most likely been covered a zillion times before but I am a little confused.
I bought my D3 a few months back. It is 2 owners from new, dealer maintained and stamped. i bought it privately and paid not a lot for it in my opinion. its in exceptional conditon 05 plate in what i think is the best colour, silver with manual box. it has given no issues before and i deliberately looked for a low spec model to not encounter some of the electrical nightmares experienced with our previous td5 es model.
Recently we heard a sort of whining noise that lasted about 10 seconds, it was very faint, like worn brake pads/ disc noise. It has not re occurred since. Since the very cold/ snow conditions on occasion i have gone to drive off first thing and the EPB light has remained on the dash. On holding down the lever it has come off. This has happend 3 times total in the last week. Now, on every re visit to the vehicle the light goes off but the brake is still holding. On gently lifting the clutch to drive off it releases with a slight clonk and is fine to drive and not binding.
prior to the snow / cold we had no issues...........
Could it just be dirt/ salt holding the mechanism/ shoes on?
gain, sorry for posting this topic but have not come across one in recent searches with similar trates

Hi there bornpompey its a common thing they all do it. I've stripped down the H/B cleaned and lubbed the mec etc and they still stick. Once you've got going and everything has warmed up then know more problem.
When its cold weather I park the car up for the night in gear and leave the H/B off, hold the H/B switch down then remove the key from the ign.

hi pompey i agree with ian,try parking it in gear(iff safe to do)no handbrake and see what it does in the morning,no noise then deff the mechanism needs lubing,my first d3(manual)had the same prob,returned it to stealer under warranty,they stripped it all down lubbed anything that moved,after that no more noise.(i read a report in landrover international some time back that this was a known issue.

Thanks for the reply matey......
The only noise is a slight "clonk" as the pads release.......other than that the mechanism/ solenoid all seems quite.
going to book it into our local independant I think for a loksie and a service.

Hi Bornpompey glad you posted this issue as mines done exactly the same on the last couple of outings  ive had a squeeling noise on the rear for ages now but recently when pulling off the drive it seems the hand brake is stuck on till i actually pull it off with a clonking releasing sort of sound

The EPB is widely written about, and it would appear to be a fragile and not particularly well thought out idea......but then i have come across a few of those with ALL the LR models I have owned for the last 20 odd years..............
I am just glad my D3 doesn't have sun roofs  now there's a topic! last vehicle was a TD% ES with twin fish ponds 
I am pretty sure that my EPB fault is just dirt, grime, road salt etc built up over years of road work. Although an engineer by trade I am going to get my local garage to service the car next week any how so will ask them to investigate it for me.
I head that there is an upgraded version of the EPB....is that correct?

you would hope that landrover would take notice of reported problems and come up with some mod to resolve the issue 
let us know the results,is the garage l/r approved

Hello,
Help....I have just spent the last hour reading all the threads I can about epb but haven't read my fault yet - can anyone shed any light while we are on the subject of epb?
I have no noise or problem at all with the actual brake working, but the red and yellow parking brake warning lights have been intermitantly flashing on and off. First time when I was driving in rain on the M25 at 70mph - gave me quite a fright.
Is this just a wiring problem as it doesn't seem to be affecting the brake itself and could it be connected to the fact that my offside tail brake light is not working either, but the bulb seems fine when checked by local garage, works in test then not when driving. (Have read I should probably put in a good quality brake lamp and that may fix it)
Just thought there may be a wiring connection between the parking brake & the tail brake?????
Any advice gratefully received

not sure what your problem is mate, but hve read various posts on electrical wiring loom faults and lamp cluster deteriation. Try plugging your lens unit to another D3 and vice versa to see which is at fault, car or lamp.
As for your EPB light, I would guess its a wiring fault.

Hi leeble,
Always try the simple things first.
As you've identified, try a new LR lamp and see if it works and the fault goes away.
As a short-term measure, you could swap the lower bulb into the upper location and see if that fixes things.

| Update on EPB & now Brake Vacuum recall |

It all seems to be going from bad to worse 
The tail brake lights are all working now as we put all new lamps in and no problem.
We had a look at Bodsy's very helpful manual re EPB warning lights on, and our local mechanic has just cleaned up each side found the usual dirt and one side sticking slightly so sorted that out, but still the warning lights are on.
It is going to the Landrover dealer on Friday for a recall for the brake vacuum assit system and they are now going to look at what the EPB fault is, have a worrying feeling it is a wiring problem and will cost us a lot of money...
will keep posted..
