EPB (I know it's be covered before but .......) |
|
I am about to go on a long trip to France and yesterday my wife said the yellow EPB light came on and the message fault with handbrake (or something similar) when she started the car. She hadn't even used the handbrake when she parked (it's an auto).
Is this the warning sign of something about to go wrong. I know it's been covered elsewhere with the EPB, but as I am about to go away the implications could be a bit more of a problem. Has anybody got experience of the EPB yellow light leading onto a failure.

It could be a random error. They happen sometimes.
No one would really know TBH. If your worried, either leave it in Park and continue to not use it, or have the dealer do a quick check for you.

Thanks, the odd thing is that I never really use the EPB due to previous screamer problems. That's why I was a little worried about the light coming on even when it was not it use, but I guess as you move off it checks to make sure the EPB is off. Maybe it is slightly jammed on as I noticed the fuel consumption has dropped, but I thought this was due to a recent reset and mostly town driving.
Think I may jack it up tonight and make sure nothing is jamming

On my 2005 manual, the EPB is applied automatically when the ignition key is removed from the lock. I have to manually release it before starting off again.
Is it not the same for you (or am I missing something here)?
Best Wishes,
Peter

The early auto's apply the EPB automatically

Why don't you use the EPB a few times, it may need to automatically adjust its self and is getting confused because of the lack of use. Also by using it it may fail now rather than on holiday. In the Beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Thanks, I have been using it all the time since the light came on and it seems to be OK. So fingers crossed it won't get stuck while I am away. The good thing is I don't have to use it and can rely on using PARK while I am there.

Hi All,
I had the amber park brake light illuminate on mine. At about the same time, the gear indicator light on the dash started to be slow to indicate.
The amber light would cancel during the start-up system check, but reilluminate on moving off.
The EPB worked as normal.
Problem turned out to be a fault with the transfer case ECU.
It might be best to get yours checked.
Best Wishes,

mine has just been in for the epb fault which manifested itself at tong........got phone call from dealer saying that the 'FAULT' may just be that the epb needs adjusting '£158 +vat to you sir....'
pointed out to them that its a 'FAULT'.....it said so on the message display!!!
they still refused to budge so i pointed out to them that it was in for a service next week so they can leave the adjusment 'till then.....'not part of the service schedule, sir'.......another short 'disagreement' ensued as i have my last service bill we clearly states clean and adjust epb......'i will do it myself then'.......'you cant do that, sir'..... .....'oh yes i can!!!!!'
they eventually agree to do it as a 'goodwill gesture'
does anybody know if its listed as part of the service schedule???? i thought i had a printout from landrover but i cant place my finger on it. Gone.......but not forgotten

Hi,
The actual wording on the checksheet is: 'check the adjustment of the electric park brake'
I assume this actually means check that it operates OK, as it doesn't explicitly say '& adjust', to adjust it would be extra!!
Regards

Hi Guys, Just had my first epb issue yesterday, 2005. 110k. Had to pull the steel cable to release the brake, amber and redlights on now and parking brake will not work at all. Dealer says it might need adjustment or the module may be shot. Wants the car next week for 2 days.
