EPB Failure after 1 month of ownership

Hi Folks,

I had the beautiful screech from the EPB this morning in our confined work car park.. Sounded really loud bouncing off the concrete walls. Info screen also shows park brake failure. Who needs caffeine when you can have that in the morning. Shocked

The car is a LR Approved with warranty so I will be calling the supplying dealer later today.
Just a quick question to find out if this would be covered by the warranty, if not I will be printing of Bodsy's brake bible and getting hands dirty at the weekend. Smile

I am thinking it would be covered since I have only had it for just over a month..

Thanks
Steve

I would argue that it should be covered yes (although they will try to wriggle out of it as a brake part is a consumable item....)

Where did you buy it from. If it was Guy Salmon, they will look after you, speak to Kerrie

If it's any consolation to you, I had the dreadesd screech a couple of times about 18 months ago. The first time it happened I didn't know what it was. It released and worked fine, and it only happened a couple of times. However, at the first opportunity I gave the brakes a clean out and adjusted them as per the info on this forum. It's not been a problem since (touching lots and lots of wood!). Therefore, fingers crossed if LR won't sort it, it's not a bad job to do.

Unless there is a failed item i would very much doubt it would be covered under the LR Warranty, they will deem this as wear/tear or something which should be done within service. As suggested could be out of adjustment and need a good clean out.....if so the Land Rover garage you bought it form shouldnt really be charging you for this see as youve only just bought it Thumbs Up

The warranty is a red herring. Forget about it for now. Assuming you didn't buy trade they should fix it as it's assumed it was faulty on purchase Thumbs Up If you'd worn through a set of new brake pads, or burnt out a clutch, they might have an argument, but this is not the case in your instance...

Thanks for your comments.

Well it released ok. Went for a quick drive parked up and got a clunk when it engaged, got back to work, applied again and another screech but at least it does disengage...

Time to call the garage.

DON'T KEEP USING IT!!!

once you have the screech, you must get it adjusted/checked or you will knacker up the actuator unit.
Assuming your Auto, just use Park & it will be fine.

Once it's adjusted however, then I'd say to keep using all the time Thumbs Up

Thanks Bodsy, I won't be for the next few days, is now booked in to the garage.

I would have thought it should have been included within the service schedule. Before I picked it up it just had its 90k service, and I have done less than a thousand miles since then.

None at all that I know of - I never use mine either, apart from applying it once in a while just to make sure it still operates and to prevent the linkage/mechanism from seizing up.

The EPB is not included in the service schedule or price of servicing. It is a stand alone job and it is also chargable or this was what i was told by LRCS & Dealership.

I thought adjustment was included in a service, but not cleaning.
