EPB cover removed , seem to be missing threaded part !
Hi All , I have followed Disco Mikey excellent thread on the EPB repair , however on removal of the cover I am faced with the pics below and not the usual one in the thread, the Latch still appears to be Latched and the Brass thread is almost in the position it should be , but the black threaded part is not showing on the right hand side, all that is visable is the cable itself. Also I am replacing the rear discs and shoes and I am struggling to get the disc back on over the shoes , I assume this is because the EPB is not fully unwound? Please help !

Are you sure the threaded rod is not wound right into the brass bit and needs to be unwound

I have done it a few times with a long 18inch 3/8 ext and slim 10mm skt on the end. Give it a swift tap in the direction you expect it to turn to undo.
Then wind it back so the handbrake cables go slack.
Normally happens because you forget to adjust your Handbrake shoes.
Do not forget to relatch if you have used your emergency release.
If all else fails.

Hi thanks for the reply and Video , I think the previous owner pulled the emergency cable, although it didn’t allow the car to move , I thought the latch part is still connected as my photo shows or am I looking at the wrong bit .
Thanks again
PaulD1 Yours looks like it is fully wound back, if the disc's wont go on check the the wedge adjusters on the the other shoe, they are not fully off/back on some brands of new shoes. You need to do this before fitting the new shoes.
Slacken the allen bolt headed screw just enough to move the wedge fully back in the quadrant teeth.
Also if you have a IID tool set the epb to the mounting position.
Have you used Bodsy brake bible.?. its in the wiki.

Thanks for the tip about the wedge adjuster, I’ll have a look tomorrow, I’ve seen a bodsys excellent brake bible and have been using it , the left side does look unwound though when I compared it to the one on Disco Mikeys post I think mine could go a bit more . Unfortunately I don’t have a IID tool and was hoping to do it by hand , what price would I be looking at to get a OBD 11 tool that would work , also could I use it on other cars ?

I’m a bit confused about how to unjam the shaft , you say about using along handle with a 10mm socket on , did you mean spanner ? Does that fit over the gold shaft ? I’ve got a 7mm nut on the right hand side I can get on ?

Hi, if you want to unjam then you have to hit the piece that is turning so it unjams from the threaded part. You are using the 3/8 extension and a hammer. The turning piece has to be shocked free as it is jammed on the threaded screw shaft. Watch the first video and you see you have to hit the turning piece at the bottom to make it turn to undo to make the cables go slack. A sharp tap normally does it. Its either that or you end up taking the whole unit off and lots of hours work.
