Cables - Urghh. - as I seem to spend month every year sorting out the brake cables on a 4 W boat trailer I can envisage the problem.

Suggest LR quietly drop it & replace with good ol' transmission brake on the D3-b or D4 model ....

I don't know exactly what happens. I am just applying logic.

This is the scenario
Stop the car apply EPB brake no problem Razz Then proceed through dirty water or just water. Drive 500yds, stop the car again apply brake and hey ho an EPB problem Twisted Evil

Take the car to the dealer and they say your EPB needs adjusting Shocked why does it need adjusting having driven only 500yds and only applied the EPB brake once Rolling Eyes

So IMO the adjuster does not like water and fails to do its stuff and or lets go of what it should be holding.

Just literally come back from dealers - EPB binding, causing warning text in display (has been for past couple of months) - replaced pads under warranty, nearly 3 yaers old with 54K on the clock - I'm OK with that Thumbs Up

AndrewS - I admit I'm a very very poor mechanic so exactlly how easy is it to expose the EPB to see if it full of mud/whatever and might need a clean up to see if that helps? Also what tools would I need?

The basis that the shoes do not get much wear, as someone said they are applied when the vehicle is stopped, so should take years to wear.

My point is the auto adjusted is not needed as adjustment should be rare. If this was disconnected or disabled would the EPB become more reliable ?

Andrew I can understand that but what makes you blame the relatively static adjuster and not the actuator/cables/springs etc that must move every time the EPB is applied or released Question
 Cheers

I dont understand all the EPB fuss. Confused All you guys with an auto box just put it in park. You dont need the thing. I have always had autos and never once used a handbrake Shocked

Try getting your car through the MOT using that reasoning.

I'm delighted (and not a little surprised) to say that since mine last went in to Westover it has been faultless on every application (and I use it as I would a normal handbrake, applying in stop-start traffic and knocking the box into neutral)
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I see your point with the MOT. But mine will either work perfectly or be seized to Censored . But it at least wont squeal in between 8)

Sad Suspect that longer term say 5 yrs + getting past the MOT is going to become a problem what with binding shoes, clagged up cables, shot winder motor, weakened springs etc.. etc.

Presumably minimal use of the epb & no use at all in watery conditions is best course of action..... Not a problem with an auto, for 99.9% of the time.

Little enough I suppose given the rest of the kit is really pretty amazing. Very Happy .

Presumably the RRS & FFRR have this mechanism too (nooo I don't want either ot them (too small/poncy / too big / flash ... Wink )

...maybe I'll end up just carry a large land anchor around in the boot - or tree straps to secure the car to lamp posts in hilly areas!

Good idea. It's amazing that something as simple as a hand brake is causing such problems in such an advanced (and expensive) car. You could argue that in most cases with the automatic you don't need to worry but sitting in traffic with your foot on the brake is not ideal - if you wear out the brake lights the suspension will fail. Rolling with laughter
