EPB backplate fallen apart - MOT failure?
While stripping everything down to clean and adjust the EPB, the backplates pretty much disintegrated, so I'm wondering if this would be an MOT failure if I can't get them replaced in time?
I managed to sort out the adjustment and get the EPB working, as it was sticking on one side, but not the side I thought, as the clips that hold the shoes to the hub on the near side had rotten away and starting to cause damage to the shoes. Luckily I picked up spare clips just in case, and managed to dress the shoes enough until I can replace them in the next few weeks.
Unfortunately though, I've found other problems too, like the rear top nearside arm is rotten and will need replacing completely, so will probably try and get the backplates done if I can when it's stripped down.Volunteer driver with 4x4 Response South East Wales

Do you mean the splash guards? If so, mine have basically become the equivalent of swiss cheese and it was only flagged as an advisory during it's last MOT.
IIRC replacing them involves changing the hub as well. Might be best to cut them off to a factory look and they probably won't even be noticed.

Yes, the splash guards.
That's what I guessed TBH.
Why do you need to change the hub? Can't you just remove it and refit?Volunteer driver with 4x4 Response South East Wales

I have noticed replacement shields on a couple of Discos and Sports, cut in half and welded back together. I guess this saves some time/cost, and the end result is much the same.Chris

The back plates are sandwiched between the hub and the knuckle carrier and splitting them means destruction of the bearing.
There are "split" backplates available in the US as a get-around, but they're expensive and quality doesn't look great.
Still, they could be anti corrosion coated and a whole lot of work and pain avoided as you would need a 30 ton press for the bearings alone. (min 20 ton if your very lucky)
If your hubs/carrier/assy are old worn and corroded then consider a full rebuild including the knuckles, bearing, backplates, etc. If not, then perhaps this short cut is for you.
Alternatively, buy a standard set and take a "slim jim" cutting disc to the them and split them yourself. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

I had thought of cutting one and maybe welding or making a plate to secure the 2 x halves, but as the handbrake cable attaches to it I didn't know if it would give it too much flex.
I'm surprised there's nothing in the UK market already, considering how bad they get.Volunteer driver with 4x4 Response South East Wales
