The much talked about D5 Mule (allegedly) has, according to the DVLA, a petrol engine. Any ideas on what that might be?
Presumably the same V6 3.0 supercharged petrol used in the D4 or a variant thereof?

The D5 is getting a four cylinder 2 litre turbocharged petrol, a four cylinder 2 litre turbocharged diesel, a 3 litre V6 supercharged petrol and a 3 litre V6 turbocharged diesel.
The two 4 cylinders are AJ200 Ignium engines, not sure yet about the V6's.
No manual gearbox only an 8 speed auto.

Merc put a 2L 4 pot diesel in the ML and that's around 2900kerb. It's no pocket rocket, but no slouch either .D4 HSE....Probably, but not quite decided yet.

?V6 doesn't square with the Ingenium info which says straight 6....?____

I think people often write V6 as few six cylinder engines are inline. What is interesting is whether they put the V6 diesel in for a year or so or survive with the fours until the inline sixes are ready?2014MY Discovery

Don't forget that the Ford built SDV6 is also being touted to be available until at least 2020 ....so we may still see that as an option in higher end derivitives 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
Well that wouldn't be a bad option for the D5 TBH, assume it's lighter than the D4 and that engine is OK in the D4. Makes engine-bay engineering more complex, V6 and straight 6 are very different.____

Plan is for V6 not straight six in the first production vehicles.
Anyway most engineers think that as nice and smooth a straight six is, they are too long and not as compact as a V6.Jeffers

Sounds good to me, I was just thinking over the weekend what a great engine my D4 has!

Just a thought but has anyone considerd the biggest downsides to these new engines yet?
Parts for them are going to be JLR expensive, yes some bits may finally filter down like filters but any other bits, its going to be worse than the current V6 engines have been for nearly 10years now.
Conrod blown just out of warranty... sorry sir thats a new tallblock on an exchange basis for a bend over the table and say hello to this polished 4x6.....FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner
Test piloted a new D4 XS SDV6.. Gone and being forgotten i hope!!

Thanks for the clarity, so they will still be buying in six cylinder engines for a while.
The turbo four petrol might interest me depending on output.2014MY Discovery

On the topic of 'engines' ........The next version of the Discovery should have been all-electric, or at least a petrol-electric hybrid. What a missed opportunity?
I love what Tesla are doing with the high capacity (i.e. long range) lithium batteries on their Model S and Model X variants. I just wish they were D3 (or D4) shaped!!!!
My understanding is that Landrover do have an electric vehicle in development - but when for?
Zero fuel costs plus other incentives - just imagine.

My dealer says there will almost defiantly be a hybrid D5 but not at launch. Would love a hybrid Landrover and they could use the drive in innovative ways too for special terrain modes, Eco (quiet) green laning, winch/pto drive etc. But they won't of course MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten
