Engine turns over, but won't start...

It's a 2.7 TDV6...

The other day I was pulling gently (?) out of a roundabout when the engine stopped, the feeling was a bit like running out of fuel, but as I'd just got a few gallons that wasn't the case.
Spins nicely on the starter, but no firing.
Got recovered to a nearby garage who do a lot of LR work.
Faults looked at - fuel pressure v.low and pressure regulator faults.
New regulator installed, pressure now "OK", but still no start.
Will start if given a dose of "Start You b****".
Apparently the injector firing pulses can been seen.

Lots of baffled folks around Stafford/Tamworth just now Big Cry

Ideas please (polite, or otherwise).

Hi Rob

Similar thing happened to my D3. It was diagnosed as a slipped timing belt that in turn threw the firing out.

I'd be inclined to check the LPFP Thumbs Up

Rocks - I hope not, as the belt is only a couple of months old (If it is then the place that fitted it could be in for a big bill.)
Mikey - That was the first thought at the "holding & scratching" garage, but apparently ruled out by some of the other tests. (But it would be supported by the recent reluctance to start)

If it starts, does it run?? otherwise its lack of fuel, check filters and see if any fuel comes out the Schroeder valve.

It will start, but not run when given a dose of Start You B'std.
Fuel does come out of the Schroeder valve....
All fuses intact.
Current best guess is a broken wire somewhere, or ECU has lost the map...

Need diagnostic codes in order to offer anything meaningful. In the meantime this may prove useful.Thumbs Up

Prof - I'll try and get them on Monday.
Gareth - hmmmm - not thought of that, but I don't think the current one is more than a few weeks old. I don't think the symptoms are pointing in that direction, particularly the "long crank" for a few days before the final ran out of fuel feeling.

Garage has another guy coming to look at it on Monday.....

Right, finally........
Two faults that played hide & seek with each other
Common rail pressure regulator was intermittent (more fault than OK)
LP pump was trying hard to sleep in a corner, but every now and the woke up for a few seconds.

Tuesday should see everything back in place and all six firing at the right time and with the right degree of thrutch....

Back on the road Very Happy
The "deal breaker" was the LP fuel pump (Thanks Bodsie for your help).

Initial impressions are that the pick-up is a bit better, so that pump must have been on its last legs for a bit.
