ENGINE SYSTEM FAULT, have you joined CFT??
To cut a long story short, since Aug 10 been getting ENGINE SYSTEM FAULTS, mostly when going up inclines or putting in a bit of power. Would need a shut down as it dumped the car into "Fek what's behind you, I'm going to protect myself and sod the driver" mode which was interesting after overtaking lorries on the M6!! Being in cruise control prevented the Scania badge being imprinted on my rear door! One other symptom was a sudden and major (-20%) drop in mpg, ah the benefit of logging fuel as the graph shows the time it dropped.
Any way, all the usual suspects were changed. Fuel filter, air filter, oil & filter, intercooler, MAF sensor, nothing made any difference. The fault codes were Turbo Overboost Error (or similar) and pointed to turbo, specifically variable vane actuator. When they got the turbo out the actuator linkage had indeed seized and was not springing back when it should, resulting in the wastegate being wide open. This meant loads of air & loads of furl going into the system. The bit that has seized is being held by the chief tech dude. Not sure what the correct name is but I remember it as the giggle pin

So if you are getting ESF errors that don't disappear with reset or deleting errors and your mpg has gone south big time you may have joined the distinguished ranks of CFT. According to the service manager the new turbos are much better lubricated, for life, so should last better than this one. And for those that think if you treat a turbo too kindly it will pack up, the actual turbo is fine, it's tts VVT actuator that has packed up due to road crap.
BIG for Guava Guildford, they have been stellar in sorting all this out and I suspect I should be paying council tax on one of their bays.

I'm afraid I too find myself in CFT ! Just got it back from a friend who tackled the job for me! After that, may no longer want to be a friend!
Same issue. Tried the length and breadth of the country to find someone who could bench test it.
Only option was to replace the f&@£er!There is no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.

Saw that but its not what was happening to me. No whooshing noise, just a bong, ESF message and lack of power. Weird thing is if you are in cruise control then it keeps going, otherwise head for the hard shoulder. Unless you can do a rolling restart.

Mine takes a bit longer as have to sort out through the warranty co, engineer visit, prices, etc., plus the need to do body off job. All sorted, plus fair amount of other bits getting done as well. New turbo for yours??

It's driving me nuts
Most of the time it is ok, I'd say 70%, but then it just looses it. Today a 110bhp mondeo left me for dust, he accelerated & I couldn't keep up. Just lots of engine noise, cloud out of exhaust & no acceleration.
Thinking about getting it booked on a rolling road, doing a few runs & see what the results say.d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack

Would be worth you giving TFC a go at diagnosing it, he may find the cause and if he can't fix it he'll point the dealer in right direction. He's positively local to you.

Turbo Technics do fault test/repairs on the VV, but they need the turbo off the car.
They do offer a service to remove the turbo and fit it again, but the engineer isn't in till monday to check on price.
Thing is, if they charge for taking it off to be tested/repaired, if it is knackakerd VV, then it is probably better to get them to fit a new Turbo for peace of mind.
Or even get them to fit a nice hybrid turbo!!!d4 HSE in Corris Grey with Black options pack
