Had ESF message/loss of power /revs increased a couple of times in March. They occured after about 15 miles and cleared by cycling ignition. Mentioned it at MOT time in April, T H White carried out a software check, found nothing amiss. Asked to monitor. Happened twice more, once after about 100 miles on M4/M5, and again after about 5 miles. Back to T H White, was asked if suspension had lowered when ESF had come on, answer, no.
Vehicle was then booked in for 2 days to replace turbo. No problems since. Luckily the warranty still had 2 weeks to run!!!!
Blimey, how come you have had your ESF sorted (Hopefully) in less than 2 months, and mine has been going on for over 12month Mark.

Quick update on mine. The high pressure fuel pump has given up the ghost - caused by contaminated fuel. Apparently a b to get to.

You mean MAP sensor, you must be lucky or its the magic 2s oil, Have you blanked the EGR valves (maybe not on 07 model)and only using it on long distance trip, see this http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic64159.html?highlight=
Yes MAP....
This is my daily runner... I only have this car.
I will check again at the next service.
Hi Chris
coming back to your observation re: the lack of gunk on the MAP sensor, you are absolutely on track. I have been using 2sO in all my diesels for the last 30+ years and NEVER had any problems with carbon build up around injector nozzles, prematurely failed injectors etc. In June when I fitted the BAS EGR blanking kit, I observed how clean the EGR pipes protruding into the plenum chamber were. This after running for some 20000km with 1:200 mix of 2sO.

This morning I checked the MAP sensor as a matter of routine servicing and again it was sqeeky clean. So yes 2sO works and helps the friendly D3 owner to prevent unloading unnecessary repair $,£, ZAR etc at the stealers.
Our vehicle had the dreaded HPFP/Injector collapse in Botswana last year at 130'000km and came back to Pretoria on a low-bed truck. I advised the previous owner at that time to start using 2sO and despite various trips to Botswana, Zim, Zambia etc with its notoriously bad (paraffin spiking!!) diesel, there has never been an issue again with lubricity related problems. An added benefit of using 2sO is the fantastic internal cleaning properties of 2sO (removal of carbon deposits)!!!
I am using the Sasol 2sO, as it is Jaso-FC graded and available at every Sasol station in the country. If I do longer overland trips I carry a supply of those bottles (200ml) with me. On the D3 I use 200ml per tank and on the 300Tdi 500ml per tank.
On the 300Tdi there is a marked increase in performance with a corresponding drop in smoke when running at a 1:200 ratio.
With greetings from a bitterly cold RSA
George

And some more serious stuff
Ok, so I've read through all the various posts, but I'm not sure my symptoms completely fit what everybody else has experienced...
This morning as i'm approaching the crestbof a long hill on the dual carriageway I briefly get 'no special programs' and then the engine fault message and loss of power, so I pulled in to a lay-by but before i needed to stop I tried the power again and all was fine. So I carry on my journey and after another 10 miles or so again pulling up a hill again a dual carriageway it I just get the engine fault message and loss of power, again I pull off down a slip road, but again by the time I've slowed right down I've got full power back again..
So I've taken it out tonight to try and recreate the problem and I've managed to make it happen every time only in third gear at about 3,000 rpm. When I slow to less than 1,000 rpm I get full power back...?
I've cleaned the MAP sensor and it's made no difference..
Any ideas..?You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

a stab in the dark but similar to me with a loaded trailer, gearbox seemed to slip between gears then system fault, loss of AT message then suspension lowering - did you use the brake just before the symptoms as that was what mine was
TBH you really need to get him booked in to the dealer and on IDS to look at when and what the fault codes are as you'll find the message may not be relevant to the problem (see above)
No didnt use the break and pretty sure this has no part in the problem as when on test tonight I tried pressing the brake an accelerating and it had no effect whatsoever (except slowing down )
I think your right. - it's off t o the steers we go . You only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.

looks like this is a regular maintanance issue.
Took the disco3 for a drive a few days ago ( i dont drive it much the mrs does) and it was not that crisp and some small amount of smoke under hard acceleration.
cleaed maf and map with isoproponol alcohol spray, and like magic the throttle response returned.
i have an EGR valve delete also. These things must be very sensative to even a slight amout of deposits/film.*Disco3 HSE with BAS remap

I've just had the ESF / limp home power problem. First time.
Was only a mile from home, so limped back at 15mph, daughter cringing with embarrassment in the passenger seat
Checked my MAP sensor, utterly filthy. Have now cleaned it and refitted, fault seems to have gone, but it's early days.____

ESF Problems with fault Codes
I have had this experience thrice, Whenever i am coming from a Stop and my revs go up to 3k on the lower gears,
(its an automatic 2008 LR3) My car shows Engine system fault and goes into limp mode. i then go off road stop the car, no need to restart it then off i go again it picks up power.
went to my main stealer just to get a diagnosis it costs $115 (Yep you read it correctly) , one Electrical guy told me its a Intermittent wire problem the car was booked for 1/2 day and occasionally will be touched or not when i went to the workshop they had removed the Egr /Maf Side and were checking something around that area.
since i was in a hurry they just closed up the car and off i went to pick up the missus.
Later i went to my Jap car mechanic , his Diagnosis machine showed the following errors
P0098 Intake air temperature sensor 2 circuit high Input
P2290 injector control Pressure too low
P0107 Manifold Absolute Pressure Barometric Sensor low input
i would love to go to my main stealer for solution but their high prices keep me off
anyone know where i can get the solution
Rommie, have you cleaned your MAP Sensor? Takes a few minutes. Search here for teh How To____

Mine had similar faults - apart from the P0107 (I've had that since though)
Replacing the HP Pump cured mine.
But low manifold pressure could be turbo. Really hard to know without knowing all the facts, which sometimes includes a road test.Mark.
