Engine System Fault

Hi,

A few days back SWMBO was driving and a few warnings flashed up - HDC, engine system fault, special programs off and suspension lowering. Having a search on here it looked to be the Brake light switch, so replaced this on Saturday, no more errors, or so I thought!!

Sunday driving the car back to Chelmsford from Tunbridge, and with no audible warning the little 'i' icon pops up, on flicking through it shows an engine system fault, goes into a semi limp mode, was still able to do 60Mph whilst towing! But it did start to kick out a lot of black smoke. Managed to get home, switch off and go back a bit later and there is no error, but it has again appeared today.

Any ideas on where to start looking, and is there anyone in the Chelmsford area that I could hook it up to a IID to check fault codes? Smile

Cheers,
Mike

Codes should point you in the right direction

Have taken the plunge and purchased a GAP iiD, and after clearing what seems to be a million historical codes, then taking it for a run and getting the issue again, its showing a

P023D-22 (2F) Manifold absolute pressure - turbocharger/supercharger boost sensor A correlation - General Signal failure - Signal amplitude>maximum

Having a Google shows this to be a number of things on the intake side, MAP, EGR, Stuck turbo actuator etc...

The question is which side does A relate to? Rolling with laughter

I was thinking it’s the sensor in the middle of the engine. In the Y that gets junked up.

Very carefully clean it. Don’t overdo it or break it.

Had a quick look at the intercooler pipes last night, no obvious leaks, also this error is intermittent, I'd have thought if they were split it would error all the time.

EGR's are not blanked yet, something that will be done at some point though.

My 'quick' look was obviously a bit too quick!!

Found a nice split in the main intercooler hose, so having to get one from the stealers this morning as the car is needed to tow tomorrow.

However there was a fair bit of oil in the pipe and was leaking out around the bottom joint, surely this is normal? and if not what can be the cause - Should I be worried?

Never rains but it pours....

Changed split intercooler hose, yay all fixed nice power back, however an hour later and bong...bong...bong.....

Error - P0087-00 (2F) Fuel rail/system pressure - too low

Have a new fuel filter on order, hopefully it may be this, any ideas on what else to test/check?

Look on the bright side your IID has nearly paid for itself already
Think what a dealer would have charged you just to read the codes.

Thumbs Up Whistle

New fuel filter fitted, and after a few turns of the key to bled she started up with no problems, well apart from the leak from the bottom of the filter where I hadn't tightened the water sensor enough. Fix that, bleed and off she starts.

Take her for a spin no issues, no bongs Smile The wife has a mobile catering van which is towed most weekends to wedding etc, Saturday no issues towing to or from the venue which this time was ~60miles each way, no issues at all.....

Get to Sunday, off to another venue ~75miles each way, drive there no issues at all. On the way back 10miles into the return and the dreaded bong, and into limp mode, luckily just before a parking spot on the A12. Turn everything off and back on, no errors show on the dash my trusty iid tool reads P0087-00 (2F) Fuel rail/system pressure - too low - Clear this and off we go, 5mins later exactly the same except the next place we can pull over was 5miles!! This time stop and start read codes, but I didn't clear. The rest of the journey home was uneventful, except the anxious feeling of waiting for it to happen again.

So you wonderful people what is the best course of action next?

Cheers,

Mike
