Engine system fault after £1500 bill

Good morning all,

I have a disco 3 2.7TDV6. It started to struggle to start (high miler) so I had the glow plugs changed. At this point, there was no issues with the car other than slow starting. £1548 later, car comes back and seems fine.

It drives absolutely fine, start is better than it was but I still wouldn’t call it perfect. Driving normally is fine but get it on idle, slow moving traffic etc and you get a warning message of engine system fault come up. No lights on the dash, no codes off the OBD2 reader but it is in limp mode. Leave it for a while, go back to the car and it’s fine again. Could this be something put back badly by the mechanic or is this a common issue and just happens to have come directly after a hefty bill?

Thanks!!

read codes with a nanocom or IID.

The will be codes! There has to be if you're going into "limp mode" or have warning messages. As said already get a dedicated LR diagnostic tool on there and pull down the codes. It may be something simple, or it could be injector issues especially with high mileage.

What did you have done for £1,548?

I had the glow plugs changed but numerous had snapped off and had to be extracted.

Does anyone in the Cambridge area fancy helping me pull the codes off it as Nanocom is rather expensive?

Thanks!

Adam

Surely wouldn’t it be wise to take it back to the garage who did the work ? Especially if it isnt working as it should be ?

Engine light (MIL) can be for many reasons including O2 sensors or cat converters partially blocked

Buy an IID BT from Duckworths or see if anyone is selling one. It’ll save you a fortune in the long run. Stay away from Nanocom it’s old technology and support is poor.

Blank and refit the pipework over the blanks for the MOT. Thumbs Up
