Engine oil - synthetic, semi-synthetic? Which brand? |
|
Hi guys
I just wanted to get some input on the type of oil suitable for the TDV6.
Did a search on Shell's website and if your country is Malaysia, the recommend Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40. But if it is UK the recommendation is Helix F 5W-30.
I'm a bit confused. And if case some of you don't know, my disco from the UK in now living in Malaysia
Help please....service needed in the next week.

I would guess that it is not unusual to specify different grades of oil for different climates I believe that every human has a finite number of heart-beats. I don't intend to waste any of mine running around doing exercises.

From the LR Discovery 3 user manual:

Engine oil - Diesel vehicles
Use 5W/30 oil meeting ACEA: B1 or B3.
I personally use Castrol Edge 5W/30 which, although seemingly for VW engines (it's recomended for our VW Golf with the long-life service schedule) meets ACEA B3 so should be fine for the D3.

Saying this, I've only had to put in around 100ml of oil since I've had the D3....it just doesn't seem to use any (unlike the Golf which uses around 0.5 litres every 2-3 months) 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Check out "The Range" stores as they have 5W30 for £3.99 a litre - Unipart and meets the required standards
