Hi All.
Soon my Disco 3 will be out of its warranty, so looking at doing my own service, so would like to know which oil is best for the 2.7ltr disco. The sticker on the windscreen is a caltex on, not sure if that means anything.

LR Recommend Castrol on the oil filer cap and in the handbook.
For 2006 they recommend Castrol Edge 5W-30 and that is what I used in my 2006 TDV6 up until I traded it in last November.
My view is that it is best to use the recommended oil.

Oil spec's rather than brands are critical especially if your vehicle has a particle filter in the exhaust. In the case of the D4 3.0litre it needs a spec. that is hard to get in Oz other than from Castrol and even then only in capital cities. There is good guidance on the web about the various Euro (ACEA) and US (API) and Japanese spec. systems, (less so regarding the various makers' specs.) which helps with the translation of the details on the oil packs, which themselves vary in what they reveal about the contents.

Check this list of approved oils and specs for each Land Rover engine from our Spanish D3,D4 and RRS forum. It have original documentacion from Land Rover included.
http://discotr.es/viewtopic.php?p=96494#p96494
Notes:
-The non DPF we recomend and are listed is the 913C, because is so far better than the 913B, in fact C superseeds B spec.
-The DPF is the 934B, dont be fooled by the C1 spec that many oils put in their names, is not the same. 934 is better than C1, and 934B spuperseeds C1.
We are adding more oils as they appear and we find them, so if you want to add a new one because you find it, pm me and i will add it to the list as we do in Spain.
Many member have the list printed and in their cars.
