Engine Management Cut Out |
|
Not a strictly D3 issue but wondered whether any of you of the more informed amongst you have heard of a problem a colleague has had with his RRS (08/58) this weekend.
I also wonder if anyone has had the same issue with a D3/4 as I guess they have similar engine management systems?
Whilst travelling between Exeter and Plymouth (southdown - Fri PM) and going over Telegraph Hill, my colleague's RRS cut out to tick over (no power) and the dash lit up like a Xmas tree. He managed to get to the next safest spot to stop, switched off the engine, left it for 5mins and started again - all sorted as if nothing had happened.
The really odd thing is that exactly the same thing happened again, in exactly the same spot, but coming northbound this morning. Again, all was well after switch off.
He's spoken to the main dealer and is going to have a diagnositc download done.
Any clues, pointers or similar experiences? If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough - Mario Andretti

I had a similar fault in (funnily enough) a RRS. Though it did come up Engine System Fault, but there was still no throttle until you had switched off and restarted
In the end, turns out the guy was filling it with fuel from a certain station, and there tanks were full of black goo, which killed the HP fuel pump
Though with that, you could force the fault almost on demand, as opposed to a specific location on a road... My D3 Build Thread

DM thanks for the tip have passed it on.
Colleague says he's not filled up anywhere other than his usual garage but that is, of course, not to say they've not got a problem! If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough - Mario Andretti

Don't suppose there is a radio transmitter on Telegraph Hill ??
If so, I wonder if the car is complaining about RF interference ......
Hope I am wrong

Ian - that seems to be the assertion by my colleague.
Looked on Google maps and there is a mast on Telegraph Hill but only appears to be a mobile site.

RRS has been to main dealer and they have reset. No obvious explanation from stored data.
I was thinking that perhaps Telegraph Hill has more to it than meets the eye but my colleague suffered same cut out today - in Oxfordshire!
Clever money now on poor batch of fuel.
Thanks for replies. If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough - Mario Andretti
