Engine cover sound dampening?
Hi all,
I removed the engine cover at the weekend following a read up regarding the MAP sensor. In doing so, I discovered that the 'sponge' that I assume was once attached to the cover is in tatters. I'm guessing that this serves to dampen the sound from the engine although I'm not entirely certain.
Does anyone know if you can simply buy and replace or am I into silly money for a new engine cover if I decide it really needs replacing?
Cheers

Did mine today. Foil backed sound proofing. Took decibel reading before and after... app on tablet ! ! Even stook spare to underside of bonet, then put felt back on. On readings only 2 db less. But it does sound quieter when revs are up. Mind games. On the plus side, did find melted bare wires on washer jet under bonet felt. Now removed and potential fire avoided , was it worth it ??Land rovers are to prevent you having idle hands.

Very neat
As said 2db difference is quite good, db works in weird ways I think 1db increase is something like double the sound? well worth a google as quite interesting.

I think 10db is double the volume so 2db is a good result. Will the foil cause any problems in hot weather with heat dispersal from the engine?

Sound levels is derived from a logarithmic equation using the ratio of power levels - to cut a long story short, a reduction of 3db is half the sound power level, so 2db is a good dropMY2010 D4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornaway grey

I have had the same silver backed felt on mine for two years. No issues and at time car has worked hard towing caravan.2005, TDV6 S, Auto, 190k miles, owned from new, V8 Brake Upgrade, Nancom Evo, RLD protector, BAS EGR blanking & Remap, separate ATF cooler, changing all the fluids ahead of time.
