See, I knew there was an emotional attachment. Plus daughter will be choosing your nursing home so doubly good she’s not upset. Whistle

presume you've looked at the option of getting engine shipped to France and fitted locally ?

By the time I have paid the new non tariff fees I might as well go the other way. That said other than the main dealer, I don't know of a garage that would be able to fit it. Nor would I trust them.

I have neither the time nor the skills to be doing that.

I am going to be keeping the car so when it comes over it will be a new autobox, TC, engine and some other jobs.

If I sold and brought another I could be in the same situation in another 30k. My thoughts are to get the car (Jimmy) sorted and keep it.

My D3 here is also called Jimmy!
We have Shaun in SA and the D1 in Zim is called Wayne.
Long story, but all our vehicles are normally named by the kids, and for some reason, always male!
As you have said, once he is sorted, it's for keeps (or until the next failure of some integral part!)
My SA D3 has been through a turbo, alternator, new injectors, rear wheel bearings (twice), two compressors and given me grey hairs over a suspension problem that persisted for two years, until I managed to resolve it myself.
I sometimes wonder why I do this to myself!
Needless to say, I use Toyota Land Cruisers whilst at work in Africa!!
Good Luck with sorting out your Jimmy, I'll follow the thread with interest.

I always said I would never have a LR but I needed an auto that could tow 3.5 t. Now I wouldn't be without a LR.

I have no explanation.

They have a habit of getting into your blood. Unfortunately the wallet catches a cold as a result. Sad
