Anyway, I do have have something to be grateful to the D5, I used the cash I was going to buy one with to add another couple of properties to the portfolio which will add another £500K to my pension pot in 15 years.
Well done that man

The d5 is no concorde
Whats funny with the d5 for its hideous back, poor dimensions and hype on tech, the velar comes out and shows its already outdated, even worse styling and generally not the revelation those in sales would like you to believe.
Its similar when the rrs 1 was replaced with the 2, the 2 was ok, but not as great as the last generation 1 was when it came out and not massively better...it was lazy design...but good sales and great financial planning (which is why they run down the last models) and good for businesses.
Im glad i switched my d4 for and evoque and my next will be an f-pace or velar, im hoping the rrs 3 will be better, revolutionary and although i couldn't afford to waste money on a FFRR, the next gen one of those will be great i bet.
Ignoring most of them are just a waste of money!
Back to the d5, its designed by people who favour form over function and arent that good at getting form right to deliver function...also dont know much about LR's...i did hear one ask why LR didnt make a pick up, this while the defender was still being built!
Seeing it in the flesh as i do all the time, really just puts me off it more.Mike

JLR don't care ...and why should they ...for every whine on here there will be at least a thousand ordered 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

JLR do care but not about whats on here...because they do sell - although all isnt as rosy as we would want (and i do want JLR to do great).
Unfortunately all their cars except the D5 are great, i dont like all of them - but then im sure people dont like others.
We shouldnt get sucked into the marketing rubbish though...you know a cars bad when they have to get bear grylls to advertise something...it was rubbish the moment he was on itMike

Can anyone point me to any properly useful advantage that would warranty spending £75k on what a £39k car would give you?
I'm sadly now at that age. Paying outright also makes the decision harder
SWMBO now drives an Outlander PHEV too and from work and I managed to persuade her to take it on the basis that if she didn't like it we would change back to a "premium" brand.

I like the Yeti but alas I can not buy one as it would mean that my case to SWMBO for the D3 V8 would be gone in a flash.

I seriously considered a ford ranger to replace the discovery - top spec one, missed the 7 seats i never use but has all the tech, ok comfort and 1/4 of the monthly price...
I love JLR stuff, but they need to get a better differentiation and not just rely on premium to demand the price. it has to be the complete package or a more broad rangeMike
