electrical fault?

I have failed rear parking sensors, the amber EPB fault light comes on after engaging reverse and then 1st, but still seems to work. Strangely the display of the selected gear has also disappeared. There is a mild electrical burning smell coming from the nearside front of the vehicle after running the engine . Visual inpsection of the battery compartment fuse box doesn't show any obvious faults (smell doesn't seem to be coming from there) but i haven't checked each fuse. Its a 2005 TDV6 S Manual. Anyone got any ideas where I should start looking? Grateful for any advice as there is no credible dealer here in Sudan. Confused

Gear position switch has lost calibration. Very common problem

Dealer will have to do an update to the transfer case module, then recalibrate switch

If that doesnt cure it, then its gearbox out for a new switch. Could also try changing the gearbox oil too. Have heard of that working a few times Thumbs Up

DM, He says no credible dealer in Sudan. This procedure should solve it if its just lost calibration.

The smell of burning could be just the fuel burning heater kicking in. Hang on, Sudan is hot is it not? Does your car have a Webasto heater unit behind the left hand headlamp? it has a small exhaust which is located in the front of the left wheel arch.

Does the temp drop below 6 degrees in Sudan at this time of year?

Many thanks to you both, the gear calibration issue describes the probelm exactly. I will try the recalibration routine and hope it clears. Will post result as soon as I've tried it.

Gareth, thank you sooo much. Did the routine and the reverse sensors are now working and the gears showing on the display. Very Happy

Also discovered the webasto heater (always wondered what it was) but Sudan is about 35c these days and never gets below about 25c. TBH I think the smell might be the bird that flew into the radiator on the trip up from Uganda; because the car was taken off me for customs clearance it was rotting for about a week before I got it back and cleaned out the car last weekend. The fan works overtime in this heat and I reckon it is blowing the smell around. Will monitor it.

Agreed, you can calibrate it yourself, however if it keep loosing calibration, it will need the Transfer case software updated Thumbs Up
