Electric window problem

Earlier this week, my OSF (driver's) window dropped down at an angle Big Cry
The electric motor whirrs like it should.
My guess is that it 'come off the runners' or similar.
Could it be that the cog spot weld have let go like on earlier Discos?
Tomorrow I will be removing the door card to investigate Rolling Eyes
Anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks for the quick reply Thumbs Up
So what exactly caused the problem on your wife's Flander?
Was it the spot welds that let go on the cog?

not sure of the mechanism on a D3
but on the freelander the mechanism is cable run (like bicycle cables) and old age had frayed one end which led to a very quick failure (after a week of snagging noises)

got a new mechanism from fleabay....
turned out to be chinese so the motor was not man enought to raise and lower more than once before cuting out, so I put the OE motor from the old frame in (fiddly) and all was well for a month,
Twang!!!
glass drops down and forward (like yours) cable had come off rollers due to being stretched and cannot be tightened up.

hence phonecall to local stealer for an OE part ordered.
I fitted this one in 15mins
job done..

Thumbs Up

Any sensible and clean suggestions please?

THE FIX
What had happened is that one of the glass securing Torx screws had dropped out!
The glass is secured by 2 of these Torx screws to the winder mechanism via a pair of white plastic brackets.
The other plastic bracket had sheared off allowing the glass to drop. Rolling Eyes
Local Indy dealer said that these are not listed separately but come with the winder mechanism (£168 + VAT)
So we simply removed the broken bracket and bonded it back together using 5 minute Epoxy and a small piece of carbon fibre.
All back together with Loctite on the screws and now works fine Very Happy
While inside the door, it was cleaned and dried out. Then treated to a nice dose of Waxoyl along the lower seam. Idea
Now all I have to do is investigate why the passenger side is making strange noises.......[/img]
