EGR and Warranty Direct

My MY08 EU4 TDV6 is displaying EGR problem codes. It is covered by Warranty Direct who say that EGR's are covered unless the problem is caused by carbon build up.

Typically are the D3's EGR problems caused by carbon build up, anyone know?

Thanks all

...I'd want to know where in the warranty you signed up for did it explicitly mention that it wasn't covered if due to carbon build up.

Warranty Direct are excellent and I'm very pleased with my warranty - claimed on it a few times. I read all the small print, and very happy to be proven wrong, but can't remember anything about carbon build up... Confused I thought they're just covered as per their "emissions and airbags details".

(This isn't a cue for "...they're all looking for a way to wriggle out of paying..." blanket statement, as I think WD are one of the good guys, but I'm genuinely interested in this...)

Mine doesn't have EGR valves anymore.

It sounds like they're cheaping-out. I have to say, I've used WD in the past and they've been really good, but I'd have thought EGR valves sticking on account of anything other than carbon build-up would be a pretty rare thing.
The valves allow exhaust gas back into the airmix box, so there's going to be LOTS of carbon build-up over time; I guess they're saying it counts as wear-and-tear.

I've had both EGR valves replaced on my car. The first one was at LR's expense, the second at Warranty Direct's. No questions asked.

WD covered my EGR, no questions asked, does it depend on what level of cover you have ?? I have the "Luxurycare" package

The LuxuryCare "What's not insured" section says Breakdown or damage to parts caused by ... carbon build up...that has prevented the parts from working properly.

I am surprised that this issue is not seen in disco3, perhaps WD are feeling the pinch. I will let you know what happens.

Anyone know more?

Perhaps it depends on how your garage have reported the fault to WD.............

Will be interested to know if WD have become more picky
