EGR valve and Fuel consumption linked?

My D3 has been diagnosed with a faulty EGR Valve and it has not yet been fixed due to it being on back order! For the past few weeks before diagnosis the fuel consumption has dropped significantly, also since a new set of tyres have been put on.
I am i right in thinkin if the EGR valve is faulty then there are no unburnt gasses being returned to the engine and so it is having to use more fuel to get me where i want to be or am i talkin a load of Censored
Ill check my tyre pressures but am hoping it will be ok once the valve has been replaced!
Driving is not as fun at the moment as when i am takin it easy it is at about 23 mpg and if i give it some can drop to 18 mpg Shocked when i am used to nearer 28. i want the Mr. Green back!

same problem without the new tyres, mine is back in again soon to have EGR valves checked again!!!!!!

MPG down a good 5 on average!!!!

Also got funny engine responses when cold (accelerates on its own and also doesn't accelerate sometimes when pedal depressed) and poor starting....all intermittent
end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Thanks guys, that put my mind at rest a bit, thought i had broken something somewhere! The MPG dropped off soon after the new tyres but dont think straight away, not really sure!
Sounds like similar symptoms to mine, poor acceleration and not always start straight away. Hopefully landrover will get their arses in gear and get me a valve ASAP or ill be sending them the bill for the extra fuel i'm using Laughing
