| EGR system fault....had to cost me eventually |

Morning all
Been lurking around since I bought my D4 2 years ago, but upto now, it's not gone wrong 
I've now got a big list of things to put right, currently got all the suspension out to replace suspension arms, but while its out, I need to get to the bottom of an EGR fault i've had for the last few months.
Performance wise, I haven't felt any difference, nor has MPG suffered, but I do have a confirmed fault on my IID tool of : P0403-13 (AF) Exhaust gas recirculation control circuit - General electrical failure - Circuit open. Few other things i've noticed is that when I shut the engine off, it runs on a bit, only for a second but certainly isn't instant like it used to be. Also after shut down, there is a slight screeching noise until the car goes to sleep, it's always done that since i got it, but I have found that the noise is coming from the N/S EGR valve.... is that normal ?
Can anyone give me some idea where the fault could be, before I replace the EGR valves. And what will I have to pay for a pair of valves ? 
....and just remembered, I cant control the valves with the IID tool either, when I try, I just get an error. oh, and its a MY10 D4 TDV6...forgot that too
