That's exactly what has now happened, although they have claimed that fitting blanks is not necessary, since it's been done via software. I don't know enough about them on this engine to know whether that's true or not.

They finally traced it to a fault in the main ECU, putting out intermittent voltage readings on that circuit. Why they couldn't discover that last week, who knows.
