EGR failure - mine seems to have fixed itself.... |
|
Last Saturday, I drove to the Alps, 850 miles, and the car was feeling a little sluggish at times, fuel consumption was crap at about 21mpg. Wifey also commented that the car sounded louder than normal. Parked car in hotel underground car park and got some kip.
Sunday, drove from hotel to ski run and back (5 miles) no problem, car never even got warm and seemed ok, parked in underground carpark.
Monday, got in car, switched on, waited for glow plug light, turned it over and it did not catch. Tried again and it started idled very roughly. There was absolutely no response when the accelerator was pressed, the engine would not rev. Restarted it, and got some throttle response, but an awful lot of black smoke (not good in an underground car park). Tried to drive it up the ramp to the outside, but had to use low 1st to manage it.
No matter how many restarts I tried, I could not get it to drive, so after a call to my dealer I popped a 2p piece into the left hand egr pipe, and full perfomance was restored However, the EML was lit up. This stayed the same for the rest of the week. The car was much quicker at low revs, felt smoother and was definitely much quieter.
Drove home today, and reset the trip computer at the start. Car was very smooth, and averaged 25mpg today. The EML light was on for about 500 miles until we stopped for fuel. When I restarted the EML light went off
Does this mean the car has fixed itself? Should I get my money back? (I mean remove the 2p piece?)
