EGR blanking plates and Emissions tests.

Has anyone who has got EGR blanking plates fitted, had an emissions test done with 1st MOT.

Were there any issues?

Not on the D3, but have on SWMBO TD5, the EGR blanking made the emissions cleaner. Nowt better than running on clean cold air, gives the ultimate combustion. The EGR is just the complicated bolt on device to meet the eco terrorists advice on re-burning spent exhaust gas.

There will be NO issues if you blank the D3's except warrenty. I am waiting for mine to expire then I will blank mine too.

simonsi, I keep seeing this butterfly valve topic cropping up, wha benefit does it have in conjunction with EGR blanking, would consider that too if its worthy.

The butterfly valve sits in the inlet tract just before the EGR inlets into the induction manifold. When the EGRs open the butterfly valve shuts, cutting off the flow of clean air and forcing the engine to ingest the exhaust gasses. As the butterfly valve shuts off the flow of turbo pressure air the turbo spins down, leading to or exacerbating the "roundabout hesitation/lag".

Blanking the EGRs stops the engine filling with exhaust crap, removing the butterfly valve means the turbo stays up longer. Mine has both, our RRS is unblanked and std, the difference in hesitation is remarkable and VERY noticeable between the two. There is still sometimes a slight hesitation but I´m pretty sure this is down to the auto being a bit indecisive as to which gear to be in....

I removed the butterfly valve plate and left the stepper motor and spindle to do its thing, others have found the plate difficult to remove and so have disconnected the stepper motor from the spindle and fixed the butterfly valve open with a self-tapper.... either method works. As the electronic/electric bits are all still connected it doesn´t give rise (on a pre 2007MY at least) to any error lights or fault codes.
 Cheers

That explanation does make a lot of sense mate, well worth a look for me after April, as warrenty still valid.

Thank you for the info. Thumbs Up

Like those above mine passed its MOT with the EGRs blanked. And it had been into the stealer for some work - comment from them was "It drives better than most, far less hesitation" Whistle And the guy who did its 75k service a few hours ago commented "It really picks up cleanly at low revs, when most just have a little hesitation, er have you do done the EGR blanking plates as well as the tune I did for you last year?"
