Egr blanking
Today while I was fiddling around the fuses for my suspension problem (check this other tread if you can help please thank you https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post2295392.html#2295392 ) I decided it was time to fit some egr blanking plates I bought some time ago…
I knew it would be filthy but it was astonishing s y!
I cannot understand how the recirculation of the gasses can be done this way without any cleaning system, a filter or a clear maintenance schedule! It’s a miracle the car is still driving! I owned this car for just over a year and probably the throttle body have never seen the light because it was totally crammed in soot!

Also the manifold behind the throttle body were full of oily grime. I took away spoonfuls of this horrible sludge, like half kilo of it! The MAP sensor was totally encased into a thick layer of dirt.
Do the combustion into the cylinder really clean this out? Marvel of the Diesel engine!
Ok rant over now and back to work!
A couple of clarification please: I totally forgot to remove the butterfly valve, it needs to be removed in order for the engine to work properly even if I have to make the remap?
Also about the remap, there’s any new workaround for this or still the only solution is to buy the, quite frankly, expensive BAS patch for iid tool?
My car is a 08 plate SALLAAA138A.
And lastly do you have any suggestion for what I should check next to maintain the car at its best?
I have a couple of issues to sort out:
Currently the main one is the car sitting on the floor for a suspected electric fault somewhere (link above).
Engine revving up and down around 1600/1800rpm. Had a mega flush done a couple of months ago but no result. DrTranny next?
But a part from the proper problem fixing there’s something I can do to prevent future problems? I know is a long shot with this car but at least I can say I tried!
Thanks folks

You should see what your intakes look like, mine were no where that bad but still the upper intakes with their redundant butterflies were 50% blocked.

You’re suggesting to dismantle the intake manifold behind the throttle body?
The ones I’ve marked on the picture?

Hi Pete, I watched a couple of vids about it and it seems really a major headache, probably not worth the time if there’s no cracks on the manifold itself. Thanks for the heads up anyway.
Do you have any advice re butterfly valve and EGR software patch?

well if the dash light is coming on, you need the patch to turn it off.
The butterfly is removed to stop a minor hesitation at low speeds.
You could try leaving it in.
The problem comes when someone try's to diagnose a hesitation and forget the butterfly is still present!

Thanks Pete,
I’ll remove the butterfly cause it’s pretty easy done and hope for the dash light not to show!
EDIT: butterfly removed and no light so far. I may need to drive the car before open the champagne

Hi G3Z,
Is a 2008 SALLAAA138A.
I suspected that would need a drive before splashing money at the pub.
I can’t drive it at the moment as it is sitting on the floor because of suspension ghosts
https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/post2295392.html#2295392 I’m trying to exorcise.
So you say I should save the money for the BAS EGR software patch? Or there’s any other way to deal with that?

Thanks Pete,
I’ll wait to fix the suspension then I’ve a 500 miles drive ahead of me so I’ll surely light that bulb!
It will give any problem a part from the light? Limp mode, reduced performance or anything?

I understand it just turns the light on. No restricted performance to worry about.
Yes set the money aside, but I'm sure you will need to spend the money on suspension components first!
