EGR blanking?

Hi guys,

Apologies if this has already been covered, and having looked at the amount of posts on EGR, I might get a slap for asking the question.

What if any, is the benefit of blanking off the EGR system?

Our 2012 D4 is running fine (touches some wood) with no problems, but I am concerned that should I fail to act now, then the old EGR gremlin might come and bite me in the behind.

If the consensus is to blank and then re-map the ECU, where can I get this done, or do I buy the blanking plates (from where?) and use my newly acquired IID tool on the ECU?

Cheers.

Not possible with a DPF fitted

Thankfully, the 3.0 EGR system is nowhere near as troublesome as the 2.7 Thumbs Up

Disco_Mikey.....excuse my ignorance. Are you saying that the D4 does have the EGR, but because it also has a DPF, it cannot be blanked off?

I am sure I have seen D4 EGR blanking plates for sale on an internet auction site? (Snake oil?)

If the former is true, is there anything I can do to minimise any EGR or even DPF faults or problems?

Has anyone used the blanking plates with the hole in on a D4?

I have put them in Toyota hilux and really cuts down on the crap build up but keeps the lights off.

What he was saying is that if you have a dpf fitted then u cannot blank them if you don’t which not all d4s do then you can but will show a erro on dash until it’s had a ecu flash to delete the egr valve from the vehicle memory

Ignoring the illegality and the increase in pretty nasty NOx emissions for a minute, the primary purpose of the EGR valve is to reduce NOx emissions by bring down excessive combustion chamber temperature, via the introduction of inert gases; a protection that your engine will subsequently have to do without.

I can understand the temptation to skimp and not replace broken EGR valves, but not removing ones that are working just fine Neutral

I e blanked mine only because the water cooler started leaking on the passenger side so blanked them and bypassed the water cooler as that’s the cheapest option for now and look like a hell to change

Not all D4's have a DPF. My MY 2010 version doesn't.

DPFs are fitted to SDV6 rather than tdv6 with 8 speed pop up rotate shift ,normally around late 2011
