So how easy is it to remove the badging off the boot?
I've read somewhere that you can take some of the badging off the back of the D4 boot using a hairdryer to warm up the glue, and then peal it off... Is it genuinely this easy? Getting my ex-demo in 11 days (!) and was considering losing the HSE badge off the back (for discretion) - and at the same time getting rid of some other the words.
Then I got on to thinking it would be cool to get rid of all of the badging on the back, and just put an LR4 badge on instead - and leave it at that - would make it a bit different.
So - for someone completely crap at any kind of DIY - how easy will it be?747_JK

I cannot understand why you would want to hide the fact its a HSE, but each to their own I guess.
As for removal, use an implement like a plastic spatchula, or something that wont scratch the paintwork. The badge will leave ALOT of foam and adhesive behind, and to remove this requires patience and either WD40, or nail varnish remover. Both will break the adhesive down, but will still require a bit of elbow grease TBH.

I've just been through this with the number plates. I was able to just pull off the old plates but as Mac says there's a lot of foam and goo left behind, I soaked the foam with a little petrol and left it for a few minutes, I was then able to just "roll off" most of the foam with a folded sheet of kitchen towel, a bit more petrol on a rag was all that was needed then to clean up the rest. If you follow this up with a decent bit of polishing I think you will find there will be no trace of where the badges were.
I would avoid the nail varnish remover though, I think it could dissolve the paint.
All in all though, an easy enough job, just a bit time consuming.Clive

Good point there, forgetting the Water Based Paints LR use, stick with the Petrol or WD40 method.

Strong dental floss. Work it behind the badge and cut through the sticky pad. The use a tar and glue remover, although using your thumb and rub back and forth would do the job just as good. Also once it's removed you could heat with a hairdryer or heatgun to soften prior to the thumb rub

Why shout to the world that you have the top spec car. Discretion is far better. The same way that the first option I ever used to tick for a BMW was No Model Inscription (the only free option!). Especially with proper M-cars, why tell the world?

Dental floss is defintely the way forward. Just use a decent length and use it in a 'sawing' motion to safely cut through the self adhesive backing. Are you going to take the bonnet badge off as well? I plan to...
P.S. I like to go-naked whenever possible but occasionally enjoy seeing folk who have done the opposite such as 518d badges on M5s and the other day, I saw Cinquecento badge on an S-Class (I presume it was an S500)!
