England 2016 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 Graphite LE Auto Loire BlueDiscovery 4

Well, I completed my day at Eastnor yesterday, and to quote the OP "For those who have not gone yet but are thinking of doing so, no need to read on, just go. Now!"

It was a simply brilliant day out. From initial reception (found out the lovely Joy went to school with my brother), initial briefing, instructor demo and then my go - everything was done really well. I was with Clive for the day, he really knew his stuff and was totally unflappable despite my best efforts.

I learned loads, mostly just how capable the car is, but also how the different Terrain Response modes work on different surfaces, how to use HDC, how to manually control gears using the flappy paddles (without the car going back to auto after 10 seconds) etc.

One moment of fun was when trying to go up a very slippery slope, we got about half way and then selected reverse to use HDC to get back down again. Except I didn't select R, I selected P. Glad that wasn't my car, but it seemed to be unscathed.

A fabulous day and worth every penny.

Has anyone done the Advanced day with LRE? If so, what does that cover beyond the intro day?

Cheers

My appetite is suitably wetted. This sounds like a perfect joint Xmas pressie for me and the missus. She already has too many shoes Very Happy Can't decide whether to book a different car for morning and afternoon, maybe D4 and Defender for a bit of variety. Or would we miss some important terrain control tips by doing that? Thinking January would be a good time for it - rain, snow, storms Mr. Green

Did a full day yesterday 15th Mr. Green

As others have stated, brilliant day loads of different tracks and challenges.
lunch was great and the staff made us very welcome.
Would say this is the best one as of yet but only my 5th experience day at different sites so still more to do.

Great to see some prototypes out being tested and also the new D5 being driven on the off road tracks, They have one being used to train the instructors on ready for Dealer training days in the new year, also saw some photo shoots taking place.

Really great place and would recommend it to anybody not sure of where to go

Had a full day at Eastnor on Friday sharing the car with the missus. I can only echo what others have said this is a fantastic day where you get to do stuff that we wouldnt have believed the car could do. Best thing i learnt was the importance of keeping the steering straight for max grip and letting the car follow the ruts. Very Happy

Is Muddy at the moment? I've been there before and plan to go again in the next couple of weeks. I would like to go when it's really muddy, the last time I went it had been a dry summer.

My father in law has been kind enough to invite me a long, so looking forward to going to Eastnor later this year.

Having previously been to the factory and the West Country centre, I am very much looking forward to Eastnor.

Regarding Eastnor mud I would say after driving round on & off for 40 odd years it can be extremely slippy. Once many years ago in my new Series 3 LR I followed a vehicle down a hill and was catching it up and I was travelling 'sideways'. Fortunately the hill eased a little and was able to regain control. Its worst if frozen and then the sun comes out, a slick top layer is generated, tyres cannot bite through at all. With the launch of the LR 110, Central TV arranged a huge get together of as many Land Rovers as possible and it was a frosty morning, then the sun came out. I have never seen so many slow speed shunts in my life. I envisaged what was going to happen and steered well clear. Unfortunately many drivers had not driven in such conditions and had a rude awakening.

Just been there today and had a great time Thumbs Up

Only one major disappointment - their central booking people had promised me a D4 ("We'll be keeping them on the fleet - it won't be a problem"). Sure enough, there was a line of nice D4's outside when we arrived Thumbs Up However, they had a D5 ready for me. When I said that we'd specifically arranged for and promised a D4, we were told that they'd all been "decommissioned" Big Cry

I "declined" the D5 as politely as I could (having travelled so far!) and after a bit of rummaging, they managed to produce a V8 FFRR instead Very Happy I quite enjoyed that Thumbs Up

Have you been to Eastnor yet Jack? If so, I hope that you managed to get what you wanted.

Yes I think I must of been the day prior to the d4 being removed. I had a D5 allocated when I arrived and like yourself was promised a d4. Had a word at reception and they were able to sort me a d4 and the instructor was good to go in the d4 so we were sorted. Instructor was brilliant too, older gent by the name of John I seem to recall.

Thumbs Up

It was nice and wet too, how was it for you?
