Had a similar unit fitted to the Citroen C5 I used to own. It made a difference; the power increase (especially torque) was very noticeable and my mpg improved from around 46mpg to over 50mpg (wish I could get that out of my Disco!).
When I ordered my Discovery, I removed the box from the C5 and fitted it to my partner's Picasso. Though the performance gain was there, it was not quite as marked as in the C5 but it certainly helped when towing our caravan around France.

Well, on the TDV6 all they do is raise the fuel pressure.....so when the injector opens more fuel is forced through the injector. In effect they 'over work' the injector and the engine control unit does not actually know what the 'true' fuel pressure is...this is neither smart nor clever when the fuel system is pressurised at well over 1600bar!
These 'plug in' units do give notieceable gains in power and torque but they can never match a thoroughly researched re-map which should alter throttle response, turbo boost pressure, injector timing and fuelling on demand.
There are several tuners who claim to re-map a car but all they do is raise fuel pressure....so a plug in box is probably as good as this type of re-map.
As I said it's a cheap and cheerful solution but it will never match a quality re-map such as ours or someone like JE etc
If it's a choice between a box and superchips...I'd go for the box
