CG - you got a link to the topic on the DOC forum??2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto
There are a couple more photos, of it on it's side plus the one below, and some details, none which say where it is from what I can see.
there is a big debate on should the chap have driven the river based on the apparent quick flow of the river and lack of snorkel give the air intake is up stream.

With the engine air vent being on the upstream side, it makes you wonder if the engine stalled. Then allowing the current to take hold without the forward momentum. I know the crossing, and its normally very easy. Its only the increased water volume on this instance that has had effect

fording is great fun, but he's way out of his depth there! what was he thinking?
there looks to be a good flow on the pics in the thread. surely with that much water in the river you'd decide against the crossing. i bet as soon as he got the back wheels in he knew he was in trouble.
i could understand if he'd gone in at wyre lane garstang, that's a scary ford!05 D3 tdv6 gone!!!

Got a scare in the same situation. High flow rate and the front right wheel dropped into a hole.
Engine went into limp mode, engine fault in info centre and very slowly idled out the other side (in low range). I now have a removable snorkel. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€
