Driving to Newquay Sat 8th

Driving to Holinwell Bay on Saturday for a week under canvas.

Anyone local able to advise on what the crowds are like down there at the minute and routes there ?

I want to leave at dark o'clock Saturday morning but others in my family so they don't want to get out of bed that early Laughing

TIA

Hi

Do you mean Holywell Bay

Just come back from Trevornick , Holywell bay with the tin tent .

Drive down great from Junc 30 M1 , set of 2am
M5 dead
A30 as normal not bad at all.
Site was a lot busier than last year , we do the same weeks each year
CV 19 management around the site , Newquay, Padstow Peranporth all excellent
Weather was mint
Enjoy

sorry yes Holywell and we are on Trevornick as well, managed to book a few weeks back and selected a pitch the furthest away from the complex as possible so hopefully out the way for the most part.

as for the weather its supposed to be a pretty decent week which will no doubt mean stupidly crowded on the beaches but im happy to avoid peak times on those. Im expecting it to be crowded but if its too bad im happy to just chill out, feet up, with a cold beverage by the tent.

i just cant stand crawling in traffic for hours on end hence the proposed early start, if they get out of bed Laughing although even im not sure about a 2am start time. Im at J28/27 of the M1 so not far from you.

Done this run down about 30 plus times , the best time I have found is go down around 5pm and drop on the holding field around 12 to 1 am , sleep in the van fresh for set up .
We always go as far away as possible , dogs. ect
Plenty of beach to go at mate , just don't bother with Crantock , rammed .
Walk to Polyjoke that was deserted . 8)

As your local van driver man, here in the far south west, around here its F carnage to be honest.

Take the advice - drive through the night - get here silly o'clock and get some rest.

Trust me i try and get my drops done before 09.00hrs to its the worst of it.before it begins around d 10.00hrs.

ITs bedlam.

Just stay safe.

cheers for the heads up everyone, im going to try and persuade my daughter and her boyfriend to join me in a 6am set off, we cant really go onto a holding field without a tin tent so will go straight to reception.

Im normally quite happy with doing it in 1 hit pretty much if I can, but I don't get daft over it and pull over if I need to.
My daughter on the other hand has the bladder of a small gerbil and has to verify every services facilities on the way down Laughing

Been on Crantock a couple of times when ive stayed at Cubert and found it was quieter the further down the beach you went but of course you have to retreat back towards the masses as the tide comes in.
Not heard of Polyjoke beach but will look into it thanks

We go down on Wednesday and I cant wait. Itll be my first trip towing with the D3. Weve been going down for 13 years and I have to admit I'm not looking forward to the Benidorm crowd. What's Censored me off is when we have said for the last 13 years "You should go to Cornwall, Its amazing" etc etc, and always get the "You'll never catch me camping mate you must be mad". Now every one of them is either going or has been down to Cornwall camping. One of the wifes friends bought a trailer tent and apparently he's a bit worried about setting up as itll take 2 or 3 adults to set it up Rolling with laughter How Censored big is the trailer tent? I can get the twin axle caravan set up on my own!

Anyway, rant over. We are going to go to Polyjoke for the first time. We plan to park at the Bowgie and walk around to the beach, then back to the Bowgie for tea. We are trying to go to places off the beaten track a bit more than usual.

all sounds good to me, I hope to stay as far away from the Benidorm crowd as possible

When I nipped into Halfords the other day for a couple of little bits the camping section was all but cleaned out so im expecting to see lots of campsite etiquette abuse.
