All the big boat owners here thoroughly recommend giving their diesels a good "roasting" every so often......mostly Perkins,Caterpillar and Volvo Pentas.....the black smoke disappears and they run much more sweetly afterwards, they all swear it is the best for longevity of the turbo and the engine.....have applied the same principal to my car so we shall see.......if it blows up I will put a marine engine in it instead "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Mind you if this rain keeps up I might put a marine engine in it anyway....just in case.... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Interesting thread.
A warm up for a min or so is a good thing also a cool down ESP after a hard drive is good also.
IMO with all cars it's a good idea to rev it up and give it a reasonably hard time.
I'm gunna keep the vvt turbo alive by the Subaru upper engine cleaner regularly and fit some egr blanking plates

Yup. Yours doesn't get the chance to cool down, there is no better protection for an engine

With all that long distance towing you do mate, your turbo must be glowing like the dessert sun - way hot enough to burn off any carbon that dares build up on the vanes during each start Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?
