Driving Lights

i quite fancy the look of having additional driving lights on my D3. £283 for the LR genuine article with wiring loom, £50 for bumper mount bracket and another £200 for dealer to fit!!!!!!!!! now call me old fashioned, but who the hell pays in excess of £500 for a set of spots? Will any spots work and can i splice into feed for main beam? Are additional "non genuine" lights going to affect bulb failure system or some other techy function? Any comments regarding this would help me decide wether to part with some cash

You can connect the spots using a relay with the condition coming off the highbeam at the back of the headlamp like on any other car - the problem is with the mounting.

I recommend going on ebay - I bought 2 sets off there last year, the one set for £35 used the other for £65 BNIB with all the wiring loom bits.

Just over half that got me genuine LR driving lamps and A-Frame with lettering off e-bay. but then I will have to spend Saturday morning taking the front bumper off and fitting. I don't like parting with too much cash!

Yup - it's worthwhile. I got the original set of lamps and an A-frame BNIB the year before for a cracking £250.00, only downer was the wiring loom was missing - that's how I know about wiring them up to the highbeam via a relay.

See if you can get your hands on a pair of Durite Econoseal Connectors (2-way Female) Part number 0-012-52, these are the same as the LR standard ones. This means you can make up a small loom that allows you to connect/disconnect the spots easily when you need to remove the grill for servicing and also means you can easily exchange them in the event of damage. I just inherited a loom, as the spots are already fitted by the last owner but it looks like he couldn't be bothered to do all the wiring up. It looks like a right pain of a job - connecting bits of the loom to the back of connectors all over the vehicle, and even a new switch on the dash to turn them on or off! I'm an engineer so no doubt I'll do it eventually but it looks like quite a job to finish it off.

Not wanting to throw a spanner in the works.... But, the LR Spots are crap....

They let water in when wading which tarnishes the reflector and they dont add much additional light at all when used with normal main beam.

ive just changed my LR spots for 4 x LF140's

Having 4 empty spaces to fill now this is of interest to me - IMHO on the rack though I think the Warn SDB160's look the D-D's - Stu what have you got on yours now? And more importantly what was the 'price-point' for them? Whistle Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

4 x LF140's. £260 for 2 pairs.

IMO the LR ones look a little large on the rack, although the 6 matching lamps looks 8)
