'Driving' Lamps

Stupid question of the day - having just picked up my first (used) Discovery on Friday, it has driving lamps already installed though I am still not sure about them. Anyway, I have no idea how you turn them on - any ideas? They don't come on with the normal lights, fog lights or full beam (flash or fixed).

Thanks.

I would suggest that the ecu might not have been programmed to use them.

Have you got the switch depressed which activates them? It's usually on the upper console, labelled with a main beam symbol with a "2" inside.

If this is switched on, then the driving lamps should come on with main beam only (by law)

Sorry to sound dim but whereabouts on the upper console would this switch be? I would have thought a switch would be really obvious but given I can't ever find anything in the fridge perhaps I should get Mrs Bins on it?

Laughing I think it's on the right of the speedo cluster - might be the left, can't entirely remember! It's definitely at that level though Smile

Ok, just braved the rain and the dark and there is no switch - just a blank plate - also no big red line (though this is not a major concern). It looks like the lights have been installed for a while.

Sounds like whoever had the car wired them in a non-LR manner, although to be legal they should still have had a switch. They might have disconnected them for that reason when selling? The wiring was probably taken off of the feed for the main beam - it might pay to have a look behind the lights to see if you can see where they were disconnected. On the other hand, perhaps they were never wired up.

Thanks Martin but I am child collection duty tonight - apparently its not called child minding when they are your own.

I have spoken to the previous owner though who tells me that they were original connected directly to the full beam and were then disconnected by Stratstones when the car developed some electrical gremlins (apparently necessitating a entirely new wiring loom??).
